Stalling Problem

My father's 2000 Gran Marquis has stalled while driving twice within the last few months. I scanned it and found no codes (Current or Historical). Dad's thoughts were that he could possibly have a key with the chip going out, as both times it stalled after going about a mile, then it re-started after a couple of tries. I wouldn't think it would be a big deal, but he is getting on in years, and the most recent time, he was taking Mom to the Emergency Room.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Do you know if any warning lights came on before dying? If the red coolant temperature light came on, the problem is more than likely a coil shorting out and killing the PCM. Will search fot TSB and post number for you. If I can post entire document I will.

No, there weren't any warning lights, of course this is according to Dad.

The way to test the key is to change keys. If it occurs again, tou can rule out the key, not the PATS system tho. The little temperature light is hard to see unless you are looking at it. It is just a small red thermometer icon. We have had quite a few Crown Vics do the same thing when coils are shorted. How long since his last tune up? This may give you an indication if coils may be the problem.
