I just bought a basket case Rodeo. Looks like it had some wires chewed up by a mouse in the dash.

I have a Check engine light on.
Scan Tool will not read the computer.
Fuel Pump Runs.
Drained half the fuel out 5 gal and added fresh fuel and some seafoam.
Car cranks but but only attempt to start on Wide Open Throttle. Seems to fire but will not actually start.

I have fixed broken wires I found.
Checked all fuses.

How do I determine if I have a bad computer or Crank Position Sensor?

Any Help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, In advance.

Bernie.

Curious to know how things look under the timing covers.

I havent looked under the timing covers...Do I need to?

I thought I was chasing an electrical problem preventing Ignition or Fuel.

I did remove the CAM Position sensor and noticed that the cam was turning so I fiquered I did not have a broken belt.

PS the car has 144,000 mi on it. I have no history on the car. Thanks.

Air, fuel, spark, timing.

Do you have spark?

Because of the coil pack being unfamiliar how do I check spark. Do I pull off the coil pack and sparkplug. Then ground the Sparkplug to the engine?

One more troubleshooting point of reference...

At the MAF Sensor I am getting 12v to the Yellow Black wire to ground.
5v to the ref wire to ground.

The unusual thing is with the plug removed I am getting 36ohms to ground from the blk\ylw wire. That seems like a direct short to ground.

Any Ideas?
