View Full Version : Miatas Miatas lemorris 06-20-2008, 12:39 AM 3 semi-real (I suck at real-real) Miatas 1 of each body style pencil on #1 http://www.dhphut.com/images/miata1.jpg I took some liberties and it's a little rough around the edges but I feel comfortable with where it's trying to go. I'm not sure but I think the customer wants it to be blue. - Lemorris Ngati_Pakeha 06-20-2008, 02:01 AM Loving the lines, it's gonna look awesome no matter what colour. The far indicator looks slightly out in my eyes. Can't to see the other two, although i'm not a fan of the newest model it'll be good to see you do your thing to it. May i ask, are you slightly tempted to toon one of them? Because i think the latest one tooned would actually look bad-ass. Just my opinion :D PDQ VW 06-20-2008, 11:19 AM Any colour with a tan interior works for me! Aryanenzo 06-21-2008, 01:08 AM i think drawing toon cars is a waste of ur talents draw stuff like u did above its soo much better than toon lemorris 06-21-2008, 09:19 AM IMO cartoons are much more difficult than semi-real lookin stuff. Cartoons push you creatively. Cartoons are distortions of reality and finding the place where they say and feel what you want is much more expressive and artistically meaningful from that point of view. I was first published in CARtoons magazine and my roots are there. I can render a ok looking car in a semi real style but it's kind of boring and really doesn't challenge me. The fact that all rules can be broken in a cartoon makes it one of the most intimidating forms of art there is. Try it...when there are no rules...what do you do? In this case I'm just doing what the client is paying for so I don't have any emotion invested really. I will learn between the lines though. - Lemorris Blip 06-24-2008, 07:52 PM Nice line work, really captures the Miata shape in this angle. And I'm with you on CAR-tooning, I enjoy the "freedom" of creating your own exaggerated reality. ajrichar 06-25-2008, 12:39 AM Lemorris, that is a great semi-real drawing you've done. I love your toon work but I have to echo comments from others - that when you remove alot of that exaggerated toon element, I think your pics are better still. You have a brilliant talent. I think your drawing also shows just what a classically proportioned and timeless design the original Miata/MX-5 was. lemorris 06-27-2008, 11:54 PM I think someone sprinkled some crack on this thread. :cwm27: just kiddin thanx for the kind words, but I'm a learner just like everyone else. It has been fun to step out of the VW world for a minute and study some other lines. I finally got a chance to get back on this. Here's pencil rough on #2 http://www.dhphut.com/images/miata3.jpg It should be an OK pattern to follow. I'll fix a lot on the computer. -Lemorris PDQ VW 06-29-2008, 12:02 AM did I mention tan interiors yet? off the edge 06-29-2008, 12:45 AM did I mention tan interiors yet?eww tan beige and brown are horrid. but thats just me:lol2: lemorris 06-29-2008, 11:14 PM pencil rough #3 http://www.dhphut.com/images/miata4.jpg and there's few things more elegant than a black car with a tan interior IMO Ngati_Pakeha 06-30-2008, 02:18 AM Wow they all look great. So which one's gonna be black with the tan interior? I hope the latest model is, i've always related the oldest with a similar shade to british racing green and the 2nd model to a mid range coloured blue, but that's just how i remember them :D nicecar 06-30-2008, 09:22 AM Brilliant, the first looks like a real, rather than semi real. lemorris 07-13-2008, 07:06 PM looks like I'm gonna do all the linework on all 3 first then render. the linework = the suck so I might as well just plow. Once I get to the hilites it goes faster. I'm ok with this one lineart in Illustrator this time http://www.dhphut.com/images/miata5.jpg http://www.dhphut.com/images/miata6.jpg http://www.dhphut.com/images/miata7.jpg http://www.dhphut.com/images/miata8.jpg http://www.dhphut.com/images/miata9.jpg GirlBear 07-14-2008, 03:13 AM 1st off I commented on this the other night. Althought they are less toony, they look awesome. Love the coloring technique...like always. lemorris 07-24-2008, 10:35 AM http://www.dhphut.com/images/miata16.jpg http://www.dhphut.com/images/miata17.jpg knightvision 07-24-2008, 10:38 AM Very cool. If I would have to choose whether I stick one of your sketches to a wall or one of your renderings, I couldn't decide. Your sketches are at least as valuable as your renderings. lemorris 07-25-2008, 12:32 AM thanks man learnin much on this one...some times when it's not your fav there's opportunity to grow http://www.dhphut.com/images/miata18.jpg Blip 07-25-2008, 10:35 AM The shading/reflections have a great gloss look. Really gives the body some depth. Nice to see how you're working out almost step-by-step from the basic color fill and reflection line map forward. lemorris 07-27-2008, 12:59 PM thanks man...it actually has been a fun piece http://www.dhphut.com/images/miata19.jpg it'll hold here for a bit as I move into the other 2. It looks simply amazing and well i think you might as well just call it realistic cos it sure looks that way to me, especially after seeing the completion of that generation two mx5. lemorris 08-07-2008, 02:54 AM http://www.dhphut.com/images/miata27.jpg Ngati_Pakeha 08-07-2008, 03:00 AM Wow!! I've had the pleasure of driving the 2nd and 3rd generation MX-5s and they are an absolute hoot! These renderings give that same sense of fun. Lemorris, you've done a great job! Cartoonerz 08-10-2008, 12:36 PM Amazing, all 3 of them. Blip 08-10-2008, 07:31 PM Amazing, I've made comments about an image being photo-realistic looking before, but this may be one of the best I've ever seen. bonzelite 08-11-2008, 03:53 AM what do you mean you suck.... those are damn excellent Related Links Participate in thousands of discussions at AutomotiveForums.com!
