91 Metro 3cyl Timing belt help. Timing belt tensioner?.....doug2060 06-17-2008, 01:35 AM Hello, I just replaced my front crank seal and put everything together but I am hearing an annoying sound from one of the pulleys. I believe it may be the timing belt tensioner. I may have put it on too tight (if possible). I slid the tensiner slider all the way. It went easily so I just assumed it was correct. Should I go back and loosen it? Atleast it's not leaking oil anymore...:licka: doug2060 06-17-2008, 06:14 AM OK, I loosened up on the tensioner and the noise is gone. I did notice that when I tested it the timing belt would start to work itself off toward the edge of the pulleys. I didn't have the outer crankshaft pulley on when testing. It seems fine with the outer pulley on. Is this something to be concerned about? Johnny Mullet 06-17-2008, 06:19 AM Should be fine now. I overtightened mine at first also ;) doug2060 06-17-2008, 06:22 AM Is it normal for the timing belt to work itself outward and the outer crankshaft pulley keep it in place? doug2060 06-17-2008, 11:40 PM I've been told that the belt walking off is common if the outer pulley is not on and that it keeps it in place. I just thought it may become an issue later. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
