Hello all,
I just got my Caprice a week ago, it needs a few things but mostly minor and cosmetic. But thats stuff for another time... Here is what I am dealing with now, the exhaust has been hacked up and a dynomax has been installed, and well lets just say there is wire now involved and the muffler ends under the car and the original pipe still goes over the axle and out the back but it not connected to the muffler... oh and the muffler is almost dragging. lol

So here is what I am doing and would like your opinions... I am leaving the manifolds alone (no headers) and thats all I am real sure of, I was goingt to use the stock Y pipe (should help keep the torque up) the Y pipe which almost is directly connected to the cat right?? Well I am thinking about right after the cat going ...

Option #1) 3" from the cat to the muffler and continue out the back.
Option #2) 2.5" to the cat and 3" out the back.
Option #3) 2.5" from the cat to the muffler and continue out the back.

Also Mufflers...

Option #1) I have the Dynomax 2.5" in/out
Option #2) I have a Flowmaster (40 Series I think) 2.5" in/out

What options would you go with and WHY??

Here is what I did with my '88 9C1.

I am also using the stock exhaust, with the beefy Y-pipe into one cat. After the cat, I have another Y-pipe, made from a pair of '95 LT1 exhaust pipes joined with a 45-degree elbow from Autozone, contour cut and welded together. I then run the LT1 exhaust straight out the back - both 2.25" mufflers.

It helps the economy on the highway without killing the low-end, and it also remains smog legal this way.

You might also consider swapping in a complete from the y-pipe back 93 9C1 exhaust. I did on my 89 and man did it wake the car up. No loss of torque by my high calibrated seat of the pants meter and lots more overall power.... :)

Ahh man, there was a typo in the "title" and the edit button is broke, I click it and it goes nowhere... Err..

Sorry guys I have the 305, not the 350. ( I wish I had the 9c1 :smokin:)

Anyways, what about the 305, 2.5" from the Y back sound good?

What about the muffler options, any opinions?
