View Full Version : MFH '65 Ferrari 250LM MFH '65 Ferrari 250LM Duncan1098 06-09-2008, 03:58 PM It is the Le Mans winning Ferrari 250LM of 1965, driven by Maston Gregory and Jochen Rindt, one of my favourate ferraris http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/163_6383.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/163_6385.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/163_6386.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/163_6387.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/163_6389.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/163_6393.jpg Zubski 06-09-2008, 04:01 PM Looks very good, keep up the good work. 924_CarreraGTS 06-09-2008, 04:58 PM It seems like the white metal takes some serious cleanup, but otherwise those MFH kits are really great (and you pay for it too!). I'm just admiring that unneccessary but very cool flywheel detail. Looks good so far. Alex rockinanko 06-09-2008, 10:54 PM i know it's sounds stupid & silly. but until the day i can finally hold ANY MFH resin kit in my own hands, i can only watch in owe the pics, with my mouth open now. it won't be long i swear... marc:crying: SGP jano11 06-10-2008, 02:57 AM I'll certainly be watching this one closely! Marc, don't be sad, after all you like to create all those one off Ferrari! Plus you are not alone in wishing to have bought those MFH kits, I've found myself thinking about selling all the double kits I have and investing in MFH kits (they are worth all the money and they would give me more time to actually build models than I get now with all the problems I get with the plastic ones, but it's difficult to take the final decision. Duncan1098 06-10-2008, 02:41 PM Alex, yes it takes an age to clean up and polish the white metal, also it seem a shame to cover up all the detail like the cylinder heads and the pistons in the block, great touch of detail, same with the flywheel. Marc, you should get one, they are lovely kits. Couple more photos! http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/164_6401.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/164_6403.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/164_6406.jpg pawlie 06-10-2008, 05:47 PM Looks great so far, what are you using to clean the white metal? Keep us updated! Duncan1098 06-11-2008, 04:12 AM Hi pawlie I use Tamiyas polishing paper to start with, 400, finnish with 2000, also I use the Scale Motorsport polishing sticks, they work really well and good for getting round smaller bits http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/164_6484.jpg FunnyGirl5 06-11-2008, 04:17 PM Thats really cool i remember making one of these cars before but i forgot the model car it was this was a long time ago lol Duncan1098 06-11-2008, 05:23 PM Couple more photos, cleaned and primed the frame and other pieces, using etching primer, got the gear box onto the engine and the brakes, and also weathered the engine. http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/164_6407.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/164_6414.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/164_6415.jpg gionc 06-11-2008, 05:30 PM Very nice! Really great: you done a superb cleaning job, normally I don't like so much weathering on Hiros since they show ever a lot of prototyping marks, but your is fully free by faults. Lot of patience but the job worth any time needed. I think also the 250Lm is the better if the Climax/Hiro kits, really a jewel. I got in yellow - Francorchamps :) rockinanko 06-12-2008, 12:00 PM Marc, you should get one, they are lovely kits. DON"T TEMPT ME DUNCAN!!!:2cents: hehe.... marc:crying: SGP mrawl 06-13-2008, 03:31 AM You're doing great! It looks really awesome so far. LeeABC 06-13-2008, 04:50 AM Hi Duncan, Great kit! thought about this one myself but decided to take a break from Ferraris and build a MFH Cobra, just started a wip here. I've made quite a few MFH kits, can I suggest that you try cleaning up the castings in your normal way and then finish with a brass suede brush; it polishes them very well and easily and looks pretty realistic. Cheers, Lee davesans 06-13-2008, 12:55 PM This is going to be a fun built to watch the engine looks great. Duncan1098 06-13-2008, 02:46 PM Thank Lee for the tip on the suede brush, will try it out. Couple more photos, working on the frame, lots of dry fits needed to make sure the rear axel lines up with the gear box and rear suspension arms on the framework. http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/164_6416.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/164_6417.jpg Duncan1098 06-15-2008, 09:38 AM Got the engine into the frame, and the axel in, also the coils and wiring, and a start on the fuel line. http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/164_6481.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/164_6483.jpg Duncan1098 06-16-2008, 02:53 PM Couple more photos, painted the lower rear cowling, and clear coated with 2k clear, put the grill in, anti-roll bar, and a bit more framework, and a start on the exhausts. I'm going to do additional wiring with the battery, and fuel lines next. http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/164_6486.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/164_6487.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/164_6488.jpg Jamme 06-16-2008, 05:12 PM Really nice work. I like the engine. Jamme 360spider 06-18-2008, 05:17 PM Looking awesome. Duncan1098 06-19-2008, 02:33 PM Bit more progress, added oil lines and the battery wires to the kit, gives it a bit more detail http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/165_6541.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/165_6542.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/165_6543.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/165_6544.jpg Duncan1098 06-21-2008, 05:24 PM Started working on the bodywork, and cockpit, primed, and started base coating. also polishing the fuel tanks. http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/165_6546.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/165_6553.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/165_6551.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/165_6550.jpg andrew landon 06-21-2008, 05:47 PM wow, this is just incredible. it looks really good so far and i think that is is one of the more beautiful ferraris. these kits have some incredible details, but i don't think i have the skills to justify buying one yet. jano11 06-21-2008, 06:24 PM This build looks awesome! rockinanko 06-21-2008, 11:34 PM well what can i say... this is one of the best documented buildups i've seen in AF on ferraris for a long time, coupled with good res pics. MFH is indeed worth every dime duncan! i now finally come face to face & have to admit the fact that this maker's kits ARE truly magnificient! the fact that somehow or rather i have to find ways to land myself one kit!!! great progress & skills there...my hats are off for you bro! wonderful build, so good i can feel your satisfaction from here! marc:naughty: SGP pawlie 06-22-2008, 09:59 AM Great work Duncan! Duncan1098 06-25-2008, 04:43 AM Yup, hand painted Duncan1098 06-26-2008, 05:34 PM Started painting the body, good old Ferrari red. http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/165_6555.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/165_6556.jpg sjelic 06-27-2008, 02:19 AM That engine look fantastic, washed just the way I like, can you please give a bit of info on paint and technique (also base color, is it Alclad or something else). Great progress, great pictures, great subject, perfect work. Duncan1098 06-27-2008, 09:58 AM Hi sjelic All I did with the engine was polish up the white metal, no painting, then with the weathering, I used a very small amount of Tamiya XF1 with a lot of thinners, mixed it in the lid of the thinners bottle, and washed over the engine. sjelic 06-27-2008, 10:33 AM Hi sjelic All I did with the engine was polish up the white metal, no painting, then with the weathering, I used a very small amount of Tamiya XF1 with a lot of thinners, mixed it in the lid of the thinners bottle, and washed over the engine. You know what they always say, if you can't do it the other way, do it simple. Darn and I just love to complicate things up :loser: Thanks ;) Duncan1098 06-30-2008, 03:33 PM Decals on, and clear coated, I used the 2K clear, it gives a great shine, and nice and hard when it dries. http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/165_6557.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/165_6558.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/165_6559.jpg 360spider 07-01-2008, 12:03 PM Looks terrific. klutz_100 07-01-2008, 02:57 PM Excellent work  jmpsebring 07-01-2008, 07:04 PM looking great! Just bought the paint and clearcoat too. How did you like it? Any info that would help or is it just paint ? jano11 07-02-2008, 09:57 AM Stunning paint job! Duncan1098 07-02-2008, 10:11 AM Hi (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/member.php?u=547113) jmpsebring It is worth having a practice with the 2K clear, the only thing I found was that I used a little more thinners than the 10%, nearer 20-25%, no problem with the paints, easy to use. Duncan1098 07-06-2008, 04:59 PM Taking shape, frame and front end together, also bit more work on the dashboard, and made up some seatbelts, and weathered the underside http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/165_6560.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/165_6561.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/165_6562.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/165_6563.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/165_6564.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/165_6576.jpg stevenoble 07-06-2008, 05:48 PM Fabulous looking work!!! Duncan1098 07-20-2008, 04:27 PM Bit more progress, windows in, lights done, they did take quite a time to do, got there in the end, same with the windscreen. Lovely looking build, and thank goodness you didn't go for 'David Piper Green'! Alice_LJ 07-28-2008, 04:09 AM WELL DONE !! GOOD JOB! KEEP US POSTED! __________________ jewelry store (http://www.embracejewelry.com) allnie 07-28-2008, 07:28 AM Superb job. Details are fantastic. Wheels look like a million dollars. The project really shows how good MFH kits are. Yes – they are not easy to build. But if you are a shark and can manage the process – the end result look FANTASTIC. jano11 07-28-2008, 09:39 AM It looks very convincing! Great job! Duncan1098 08-06-2008, 10:55 AM Here are some more photos, pritty well done, all the wheels, finished most of the bodywork, and the trim. With the boot, I did not want to chip the clear coat, so did not push it into place, but it gives the idea. I will display it without the boot on. This was the first MFH kit I have built, and have learnt alot from it, it was good fun, though it did have it's moments. http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/611fbc55.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/2dd16cdf.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/fae681f4.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/cf58a6a8.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/4b5dc87a.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/354833db.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/defff6b2.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/2325c2d9.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/8f3a7f82.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/cfe20817.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Duncanbm/Ferrari%20250LM/3f102a5e.jpg klutz_100 08-06-2008, 12:44 PM I can't see the "moments". All I can see is an OUTSTANDING build. Lovely work  sjelic 08-07-2008, 08:10 AM Looks fabulous, wheels are perfect but my favorite is engine bay, looks stunning. daniel_k 08-07-2008, 06:29 PM you did a nice job, especiallay the engine looks good. the paintjob could be improved a bit, to much orange peel for my taste, very visible in the last picture... The spokes look a little thin. daniel -germany- jano11 08-08-2008, 04:00 AM This being one of my favorite cars, I like the model quite a lot! The engine detail is fantastic! Duncan1098 08-11-2008, 05:36 AM daniel k Yes there is room for improvment on the paintwork, there were a couple of places with a bit of orange peel, it was with the clear coat, I will do a bit of polishing, should of taken more time on that. With the wire wheels I think the scale is very good, thinking that they are 1:24 of the real thing, my opinion Layla's Keeper 08-16-2008, 12:06 PM I saw this car in the skin at the Indy 500 last year in the Indy Museum. Practically a religious experience for a Ferrari fan! Seeing your build-up, I can't see anything that doesn't ring true to the 1:1 car. ketje 08-16-2008, 02:53 PM Looking good. I think I have to buy one of these MFH kits. The always look great to me. Related Links Participate in thousands of discussions at AutomotiveForums.com! Registration is absolutely free. |
