Hello everyone. I have a 2000 GP Gt with a non supercharged 3.8 with 51,000 miles. I just got done doing the front brakes, Rotors and pads. Piece of Cake, just like all the rest i have done. Then i took the rear apart and i have never seen anything like it. I know the inside band is the emergency brake but how do you take it apart? I need to replace the emergency brake shoes and have no idea what i am doing. Can anyone explain how to do it? Thank you

To properly remove the horseshoe parking brake shoes you have to remove the hub. Also, if you are not careful you could get hurt if you try to remove them any other way. In the meantime look for a star adjuster on each side at the open part of the horseshoe part where you can make an adjustment to extend the life out of the shoes.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have 51,000 miles on her. It's driven in the winter only. The emergency brake shoes look pretty thin. I will do the adjuster and see what she does. When i park on a hill in neutral with parking brake on, the car will roll. Is the removal of the rear hub easy? could you give a brief description on their removal? Thank You

Also, you should have a cable adjuster behind the gas tank to bring it in. Those shoes always look thin so they may not need replacement. Compare them against new ones and you will see. 51K miles is pretty low to be replacing parking brake shoes.
