how to silence noisy brakesharmankardon35 06-02-2008, 10:47 PM a few weeks ago i did the hubs on both front wheels, and soon after i developed a peircing brake squeal while driving. It was from both wheels but after taking them apart and sanding the pads the drivers side is silent, but i cant shut the passengers side up. At first the noise was there while driving, and would dissapear when i hit the brakes.. now itseems to get louder with heavy braking and highway driving (heat). The pads are almost new and have plenty of wear left in them, rotors are ok...i took the pads off and sanded the face, greased up the sliders and re-installed. went away for a day :banghead:...am i just gonna have to buy pads with softer material? LittleHoov 06-03-2008, 12:24 AM Its a tough thing to work with for sure, most shops will tell you its normal. I had a similar situation when I first upgraded to 12 inch rotors and kept the same pads. Before the switch they were quiet, but id get the occasional squeak or squeal afterwards. A few months back I got new rotors and installed ceramic pads on the front and organic pads on the back(they were the cheapest) I cant recall any noises ever coming from the front, I do get occasional sounds from the back when things are damp in the morning, etc. There is also some sort of spray available that is supposed to help with the noises. panzer dragoon 06-03-2008, 08:04 AM buy good quality pads -I really like the Napa ceramics (very thick and will last many years, 80$) and I use the old rotors = still no (audible) noise. LittleHoov 06-03-2008, 11:50 AM Im running Raybestos ceramics. I got them for around 50 bucks from RockAuto http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1359255,parttype,1684 They sell a ton of them, mine are the professional grade ceramic, they have another higher grade too, dont know what the difference is without looking at their website. I noticed that some of the pads say "noise elimination clips" included, which probably serve to dampen vibration in some way. I believe brake noise is not only caused by metal on metal rubbing, but also by vibrations. Also, just a sidenote, ceramic pads still have metal in them, just different types. harmankardon35 06-04-2008, 02:17 AM ill have to get new pads..mine are the cheap semi-metallic kind that kind of glaze over and make a horrible squeal when stopping. Another problem i have is clicking when stopping...now i asked a friend who is a mechanic and he thinks it could be a mis-alligned bearing (just replaced the hubs)...but the noise is only when braking (click click sound that is related to the speed i am travelling when braking) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
