I have a 99 Cherokee Sport 4.0. When I turn the key to start it, it will turn over multiple times before it actually starts. if the engine is warm this will not happen. I have been tols multiple causes and have read many forums,...now I come to you.

Also, just as of recent I have noticed that the oil pressure gauge has decided to read much higher than it did before. It used to fluctuate between 13 and 15 at idle and it would rise up to about 40 when accelerating or cruising. I beleive that is normal. Now,when the Jeep is cold the gauge will fluctuate betwen 50 and 60. Upon accelerating when cold it will go as high as 80! Once the Jeep has warmed up it will then settle into about 40 during cruising.

My temp gauge is also fluctuating. The gauge will sometimes read extremely low or near normal.

The Jeep has 217,580 miles. The engine was replaced at 180,000 miles. I dont beleive there are any problems with the engine itself. I was wondering if these were sensor issues. My check engine light is not on.

Please Let me know what you think. Thanks guys

The first thing is probably the fuel pump check valve.

The instrument pack harness is known to have problems.

Both of these issues have been discussed before in this forum.

Oil pressure - what weight of oil are you using, and what's the temperature? It's normal to have higher pressure with colder oil at startup - all the 4.0's take 10w30 IIRC.
