96 1500 318 Stalls and won't restart til coolsalewis843 06-02-2008, 03:21 AM My 96 Ram with a 318 completely and suddenly dies while driving on highway and will not restart until it completely cools. This problem is happening more frequently as temps go up for summer and taking longer to restart. Was told either computer or pickup coil. Is there a way to find out? No codes showing.....New ignition coil.......New cap and rotor..........New wires......New plugs. Any help appreciated. dvdmachine 06-06-2008, 01:32 AM I have seen many cases like this one and most of the time it was the pickup coil that was causing the problem. I am not aware of anyway to test the coil but keep looking there might be away. Your best bet is either to buy a new one and try it or maybe go to a junk yard and get one. alewis843 06-11-2008, 02:37 AM Have changed pickup coil and still does same. Fuel pump went out this weekend so changed it. Wasn't stalling and starting problem. Still stalls and won't start til cools down. Going to try another pickup coil tomorrow. Getting code 11-no reference signal from distributor(pick up coil) If new one doesn't fix it, I am completely stumped. Anyone know what else would throw that code?:banghead:<<<exactly how I feel. Have only owned truck for 4 months now. elite1msmith 07-08-2008, 08:15 PM did u ever get a code 1391? alewis843 07-08-2008, 09:26 PM Sorry, I never had time to post to say that I had fixed the problem. Turned out to be crank sensor. Had metal specs on it from head gasket replacement. Never got a 1391 code but then again I never put a scanner on it so how would i have. Anyways thanks for input. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
