Hey everyone! Yeah, I decided to sell my Geo Metro. One main reason is because of how safe it is, with all the northern California drivers, and how crazy they drive. Also on how noisy it is driving a long 100+ mile drive on interstate 80.

I recently (Sunday) bought a 1995 Cadillac El Dorado with 107k miles and an extra 2 year, 24,000 mile warranty, all for around $6,000. I got an offer tonight that a guy will give me $2000 CASH for my Geo (don't even have to smog it for him). That's kind of hard to pass up.

Anyway, just letting you all know! I'm going with the new owner tomorrow to DMV to finalize the paperwork.

Chances are I will never own a Geo Metro again. They are fun little cars, and have excellent gas mileage....but a lot of times I don't feel so safe in them. The Cadillac is a realllly nice car. Gets 18mpg city and 25-27mpg highway...not as good as a Geo, but so fun driving, with cruise control, air conditioning, moonroof, full leather interior, and a 6-speaker Bose CD+Cassette system...wow. :)

I will still be a member on here though! I will provide input for people who need help!

BTW, here are two pictures of my Cadillac:

Nice caddy man, that thing is really clean. Don't be a stranger.

I've driven in Northern California and the drivers seemed pretty civilized compared to the drivers in Socal - but maybe I'm mistaken. As of about 1 year ago my Metro became my second car - I bought a Pontiac Vibe (brand new) as my primary car. Since I have the Metro auto the Vibe gets comparable mileage and is much bigger and more comfortable - especially for long journeys. Since the Vibe has the Corolla engine it has a good history of reliablity - some pople have reported 300K + miles with few/minor issues.

The Metro is quite uncomfortable to drive for long distances - especially with the kind of roads we have in Socal (I would not call them exactly smooth). I just drive it a couple of days a week to keep it running.

Good luck with the new car. I'm sure you will be much more comfortable in it.

I look at my GEO Metro as commuter car and not a long distance car at all. Farthest I consider driving my Metro is an hour. My work commute time is about 15 minutes so the Metro is perfect work car and grocery getter. I think the name of the car pretty much sums up its intent. METRO- city car not highway and interstate type car.

Just my thoughts,

I agree that my Metro is not suitable for long trips. But, it is a 1995 three speed auto with the 4 cylinder engine. I have slightly taller gearing with P 165/80 R13 tires. The gearing is just too low for long trips. I drove 300 miles at a corrected 65 mph with AC off in the summer in Florida and averaged 38 mpg. Not bad. On the return trip I drove 75 mph and the average mpg was 34.5 and it seemed like the engine was wound up dangerously high for purposes of longevity. I would think that the 5 speed manual would turn much lower rpm at the same speeds compared to my Metro. They are lighter and tend to be noisier, however- at least the older models.

Now when I go on a long trip I rent a car if they are available cheaply. I had a PT Cruiser and could comfortably drive 82-3 mph and at 75 it got about 25-26 mpg, 9 less than my Metro.

HELP.....I have a 92 Geo Metro and need to install the serpentine belt(mine broke and fell off).

I've looked and can't figure out what I have to loosen to get the new one on.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Loosen the alternator bolts. There is one up top and 2 down below. They are not real easy, but time and patience will win the game.
