I'm having an issue with my pressure guage lately. It seems to be working fine while the engine is running (normal readings I always got), but when I shut off the van the guage stays at whatever the last reading was instead of returning to zero??? When I turn the key for a restart the guage will then reset to zero, pause a second or two, and start reading pressure. I'm wondering if this is just a sending unit problem? If so, where might it be located on the block, so I don't have to spend 4 hrs. looking for it?

Thanx

What you're noticing is the buffering action of the oil pressure guage, perfectly normal. The fuel gauge is buffered in the fuel level sender, (in the fuel tank) to keep the indicating needle from moving when the fuel sloshes in the tank. The temperature and volt guages do not have a buffer.

Old Master,

Thanks as always for the info. I guess my real concern was why the guage is staying up and reading after the engine is turned off. I wondered if it was draining battery power with a short or something?

The oil pressure buffer is designed different than the fuel guage buffer. The oil pressure buffer leaves the needle where it last indicated oil pressure when the power is removed. Yours is working correctly.
