Fouled Plugs 90 V/6 Camrylutzag40 05-18-2008, 05:39 PM I Have A 90 V/6 Camry. It Has 80,000 Miles And Has Been Sitting For A Few Years When I Bought It Two Years Ago. It Ahd 53,000 Miles. Problem Is It Smokes And The Plugs Are Wet, And Some Plugs Are Coroded. What Could The Problem Be And How Much To Get Fixed. Any Suggestions Would Help. Thanks. Mike Gerber 05-21-2008, 01:00 PM Were the plugs wet with gas or with oil? When you say the plugs are wet, most people will assume you mean with gas. If you did mean gas, then valve seals are not the problem. If they are wet with oil, then valve seals could be the problem. He said the car sat too long and cracked the seals. what would ecg codes be good for if that was the problem. Brian R. 05-21-2008, 04:42 PM I would say that the car sat too long and you have frozen (rusted) oil rings. Replace the plugs with one of the brands I suggested and see if they get fouled again. That won't prove what is at fault, but it may save you unnecessary work. If you have one or more frozen oil rings, then you will have a lot of smoke out the exhaust all the time. I don't know what cracked seals would do. Normally, bad seals become tight when the engine warms up and initial smoke from the exhaust stops after the engine warms up. I don't recall seeing seals damaged by lack of use to know what to expect. I don't think leaky seals will show a code in older engines, but I'm not sure. DFBonnett 05-22-2008, 03:56 PM As Brian noted, it could be fussy oil control rings. Find a quiet stretch of road and wind it up to about 40 in 2nd gear. Let off the gas and coast down.
