I had one fail, made the engine crack and bang, firing all over the place all the time. This could be the ignition module. Don't know about the black smoke though, could be unburned fuel causing this, is it backfiring? C_a_R_f_R_e_A_k 05-22-2008, 11:31 PM check fuel regulator, check the coil, check the pickup in the distributor, the ignitor is the module, also check for good grounds or erratic grounds that break contact or make poor contact when they get hot GeoffBooth 05-24-2008, 09:20 AM Ok, I learn something new every day. The box of tricks a top the coil is the ignition module. I thought the pickup in the distributor was the module due to the fact they are expensive items. sp55b 08-18-2008, 12:49 AM my igniter started to fail some days ago and i remember that i had the old one from the 2.2 so i plugg it on it plugg perfectly and started like nothing but later in a half an hour or more the car start to fail again untill it turns off i started again and it turns on but turns off few seconds later and black smoke comes out well i think i did wrong connecting the other igniter but now i dont know where to find a good igniter for sale My car has the some problem and I was wondering if you had found a solution yet?
