Super high idledmiller66 05-15-2008, 10:11 AM Hi All, I have a '97 Geo metro lsi, 1.3, 5 speed, 164k miles. It idles at 7,000 RPM. It has the cel light on but I can't even get it to a place where I can have it read. I tried replacing the TPS, but that didnt do anything. It says in the manual something about the idle speed control motor, but I cant locate one of those either. Any ideas? 91Caprice9c1 05-15-2008, 06:43 PM Well that is still 2,000 rpms lower than a formula1 car idles. J/K. You may have a huge vacuum leak somewhere (brake booster hose, brake booseter, PCV valve) or the throttle is binding open somehow. -MechanicMatt dmiller66 05-17-2008, 09:04 AM No vacuum leaks, and no binding. dmiller66 05-17-2008, 09:05 AM Why can't I seem to find a idle speed control motor anywhere? flashlight 05-17-2008, 07:15 PM The idle speed control motor looks like a black box on the back of the throttle body. I came across a brief section in the factory service manual. I hope that this will help you in your quest. 91Caprice9c1 05-18-2008, 02:44 AM flashlight 05-18-2008, 05:30 AM Thought I'd give you a visual on what the idle speed control motor looks like. http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn152/burnidaho/th_P5030426.jpg (http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn152/burnidaho/P5030426.jpg) Woodie83 05-18-2008, 07:34 AM 7,000 rpm is wide open, the rev limiter is the only thing stopping it. I don't think the idle speed controller has that kind of capacity. You've got a huge vacuum leak or the throttle butterfly fell off. 91Caprice9c1 05-18-2008, 06:03 PM Yeah, Woodie, I'm with ya man. On the other hand I took a picture anyway: http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j64/isc20/iscmotor.jpg -MechanicMatt vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
