View Full Version : 71 Cyclone GT 71 Cyclone GT MadMuscle 05-05-2008, 11:36 AM I have a 1971 Mercury Cyclone GT that In have been working on the last couple of years. It has a 351C motor (4bbl), TCI Super Streetfighter transmission, 4:11 gears, tru-lok rearend.... Can anyone suggest a good cam replacement...I don't want to go overboard, but I definately want the "choppy" sound. I'm also adding headers, and would appreciate recommendations for them also. Will Help 05-05-2008, 10:32 PM It just depends on whether this is an everyday driver that requires some kind of mileage or weekend show boat. They will need to know this and also every modification that may have already been made to this engine. Cleveland engine is a nice engine. I had a 400C. MadMuscle 05-06-2008, 08:17 AM Hi Thanks for the info Not a daily driver ....just something to get out in an "profile" once in awhile! MadMuscle 05-07-2008, 07:54 PM Have decided to go with a Weiand intake, Edelbrock 750, Hedman ceramic headers and a Crane hydraulic cam..lifters..few other goodies..by next week I should know how it all shakes out. Thanks Will Help 05-07-2008, 08:01 PM Have fun!!! MadMuscle 06-04-2008, 08:31 AM Once work started on the engine there was more to do than I thought, wanted it done right...so started from scratch. Took everything apart and sent the block & heads to the local machine shop to be checked out. Everything dipped and checked for cracks...All OK Bored block to .030, replaced all bearings, gaskets, oil pump, crankshaft pistons, rings, ....pretty much everything, like a new engine. I had already had some work done...new cam, I love the sound...not so lopey it wants to die, but enough that it has that "don't mess with me" sound. New ceramic coated headers, Weiand intake, Edelbrock 4 bbl carb, Ford Racing valve covers, Edelbrock air cleaner, ignition....etc...at this point (still in shop) almost everything on or in the engine has been replaced with a higher performance part. MagicRat 06-04-2008, 10:15 PM It seems like the project is progressing nicely. Thank you for the update :) sbcjr 06-10-2008, 06:55 PM That's one sweet Cyclone.
