How's this for a rotten deal?

I'm having the intake gasket repaired right now at a dealership. Having a major problem with them. They broke my intake manifold trying to get a nut off. Then they put a used manifold on it which has bad injectors, and they tried to make me pay for the replacement of the injectors.

I put the van 1997 Astro AWD 191,000 maintained regurly miles on it, in the dealership for a faulty speed sensor at the transfer case, windshield wiper replacement - defective by recall - and a coolant system flush.

After fighting with them for one week they are still trying to stick me with a $1,793.00 bill.

They have told me this:

Windshield wiper repair - No Charge
Manifold - No Charge
Injectors - No Charge

So, To have the speed sensor, intake gasket and coolant flush they want $1,793.00 ---

The fight continues tomorrow.

That does seem a little steep for a VSS, but having done the intake gasket, they may have quite a bit of time in it.

Did the invoice list the number of labor hours? If not, you should ask. We can find the flat rate labor allowed for an intake R&R and you can make the call.

The coolant flush should be an "automatic" with an intake R&R, since it all has to be drained to remove the intake anyway.

Why'd they pull the intake manifold if you were only having a speed sensor & windshield wiper replaced and the cooling system flushed?

Did they tell you they had to pull the intake before they did so? Did they tell you why and how much it would be?

The GM manual calls for 4.3 hours for both upper and lower gaskets. They let the bolt soak in penetrating oil overnight (so they say) then when they put a socket on it they cracked the manifold. They say the nut was fused to the manifold. My regular mechanic says the head on the bolt should have snapped off first, he thinks they probably tried to chisle it.

I brought the van in for wiper repair, speed sensor and coolant flush. They called me and told me the gasket was leaking and they could put a new manifold on after they broke it for $500-$550,,,

Then they put a used manifold on which had bad injectors and tried to charge me for new injectors.
