View Full Version : timing timing allencaprice 05-03-2008, 02:20 PM WHERE is this plug located? Thank you for any help... it is greatly appreciated. allencaprice 05-03-2008, 02:23 PM this "interference motor" being a 1998 Contour SE 2.0, 4 cyl. pre98zetec 05-03-2008, 02:26 PM zetecs are not an interference motor. beyondloadedSE 05-03-2008, 03:34 PM zetecs are not an interference motor. Ditto. allencaprice 05-05-2008, 06:12 AM Than you for the feedback. 1998 Contour 2.0L, 4 cyl. dual overhead cam, bio-fuel (alternative fuel tank is removed). I was going by the timing belt's instruction sheet saying that this engine has been identified an interference motor and should be inspected for engine damage. Two valves were bent when the timing belt broke, so I had that repaired. Step #4 says to put the crankshaft timing pin into the cylinder block plug and I haven't found that plug yet. pre98zetec 05-05-2008, 02:48 PM did you go to a shop and have these 'bent valves' replaced? most shops will rip people off good on that one.. I bought a contour off a guy a couple of years ago, the timing belt snapped, he took it to a shop and they soaked him nearly 1500$ to replace the engine that didn't need it.... I snapped a belt in my other 96' and replaced it and its still running, that was over 80k ago. check out the zetec maintenece section over at www.contour.org in the forums section for more help, you won't get much here except from either me or beyondloaded, not many contour people around here. allencaprice 05-06-2008, 06:02 AM Took it to napa...maybe they only cleaned up the valves.....they gave us the impression that they repaired 2 valves. Great. 'Guy at autodata helped with the plug situation...gotta be getting close to gettin' this MIL's (mother-in-law's) car out of the garage! Thanks for the info....it's been helpful.
