zx2 '98 engine questionfordzx298 05-03-2008, 10:58 AM Hi, I'm having trouble with my car. Its timing belt broke while I was driving it. Does anyone know for sure if it's an intereference engine, what procedures are required to get an estimate for the cost to repair it? Thanks. Johnny Mullet 05-03-2008, 10:00 PM You did not state what engine it has, but usually the valves don't bend in Escort/ZX2 motors. Timing belt replacement at a local shop could run around $300.00 and double that at a dealership. fordzx298 05-03-2008, 11:50 PM The manual says the engine is 2.0L either SOHC or DOHC Zetec. fordzx298 05-04-2008, 01:38 PM Ok, I think I found which one it is: 2.0L L4 PFI DOHC 16V Johnny Mullet 05-04-2008, 04:22 PM Either way, a timing belt replacement will run around $300.00 if not a little more. Jacfourteen 05-17-2008, 12:19 AM I had one snap while going down the highway, I threw a new belt on and it was fine. m1903man 07-29-2008, 02:57 PM Yes, the Zetech engine (The only engine that came with the ZX2) has a free floating upper. A timing belt snap will in no way hurt the engine. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2013
