What are possible best ways to increase car mileage?

I have been equipped with this knowledge.

If your car is equipped with overdrive gearing use it as soon as your speed is high enough. 2. Keeping a constant speed is ideal for improving your gas mileage.

Here are some more:
1) Keep your car properly tuned up including clean air filter.
2) Keep your tires properly inflated.
3) On the subject of tires, make sure they are properly balanced. An "off balanced" tire can cause problems as it doesn't properly make contact with the road and causes undue stress on the vehicle causing economy to suffer.
4) Remove any unneeded or excess weight from vehicle.
5) Use proper grade of fuel designed for engine.
6) Combine trips.
7) Keep from excessive speeds, prepare to brake and do not brake "at the last minute" when approaching light or stop sign, anticipate it.
8) When taking off from a stop, gradually increase speed, do not "floor it".

To add to the previous list: 9) Use synthetic lubes where you can. The improvement will be slight but you will enjoy other benefits as well.

One great benefit of using synthetic that most people don't think of is that it lessens our dependence of foreign oil. Also the longer service time is a definite positive as it decreases the quantity of used oil that needs to be disposed of whether it be recycled or by some other means, (hopefully environmentally friendly ways.)
