What RPM for best gas mileage?

I have a 1995 4-cylinder VTEC atuo EX with 155k on it. I am trying to figure out how fast I should drive down the highway to get the best MPG possible. For example, at 70 I am going too fast and sucking in too much gas, but at 35 my rpm's are too low and the engine therefore goes through more gas to try and compensate. So, what RPM, or highway speed, have you guys found that you get the "best" gas mileage?

the car is gonna perform how its gonna perform nothing you can do will change that just dont have a lead foot. when the cars rpm is down that means the trans is sensing that this is the right speed to shift down and coast therefore lower rpms means less gas consumption

On level ground or going downhill and about 50-55 mph right after the transmission locks up. Then put on cruise control and don't disengage it or change speeds.
