This will be my next project.

An a dutch modellingforum we just started a Boyd Coddington groupbuild.

I thought this will be a nice model to build.

Very nice kit. Some flash but that doesn't matter..

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/inhoud_004~16.jpg

The stock wheels are nice but too small I think. I'll use these 23'' Pegasus wheels.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/inhoud_005~16.jpg

I also want to add some PE and other detail to the car.
The first things I already have are: PE custom mirrors, PE aircleaner, PE KUSTOM licenseplate holder, PE windowopeners, sparkplug wire.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/inhoud_006~15.jpg

and a teaser:

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/inhoud_009~6.jpg

The body will be very smooth and the not important parts will be removed.

I think I paint the body in Champagne Gold and the interior in ligthbrown.

This is a GREAT kit. I like the wheel and tire combo already.

One quick suggestion. Lately, I have been buying two sets of wheels, one in 19" and one in 23". I use the 19s in the front and the 23s in the rear. It makes the front look like it can still steer and puts a nice set of meats out back for traction concerns. It also allows the front to sit further in the weeds.

I like the look, anyway.

First I also used that setup. I also have the 19'' versions of this wheels.

But I didn't use that setup, because after all it will look lika a JADA toy car :D Look at those die-cast models. They all have smaller wheels in front.

I think the 23'' will look great. The 19'' will be used for a '69 camaro :)

Last days I started on the bodywork.

This is what I've done so far.

- Fuellcap cleaned
- rain strip (?) from the roof smoothed
- new panellines in the doors
- holes for the wipers cleaned
- strip around the rearwindow smoothed
- step-up panels smoothed on the body
- mudguards (inside the front) smoothed on the body

I'm not finished yet.

I also want to open the sidefenders, so you can see the engine from the side.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motor_004~4.jpg

I also painted the frame in chrome/silver.
http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motor_005~4.jpg

You can see the Ford V8 engine now :)

I worked on it yesterday and today.
It's not the stock engine but I changed some things.

First it was a single carburator with a big aircleaner.
I wanted to add the 2 PE aircleaners, so I modified the intake manifold and used 2 other carburators.

I also made the holes for the spark plugs.

In my spare partsbox I found 2 COBRA valvecovers. They look good on this engine I think :)

The engine was painted with Champagne Gold, the same colour for the body :)

On the pics it looks like toy, but I can manage you that is a nice engine in reallife.

Nice looking build you have going on there. the body work looks pretty good. I wouldn't have gone with a silver frame, but that's why I'm not building it lol!

I hate to say it, bud, but you do realize that's a chevy motor you gots there, right? I don't recall a ford motor to ever have a distributor in the back. and the exhaust ports are like this -> 0 00 0 where as all ford motors I've ever seen are like this-> 0 0 0 0

I didn't know that. I searched the internet for this engine but can't find any good reference pics because I don't know what engine this is.... Can you tell me what engine this exactly is?

small block Chevy. I'd google search Chevy 350 v8 images. There's sure to be elevntybazzillion picks out there. This is, after all, the MOST used engine in automotive history. I'd think that particular motor would be from the mid to late 1970's, but they didn't change anything on the small block chevy much from the late '50s to the late '90s

I have this kit as well and I was gonna say it was a smallblock Chevy :) Very, very common engine to use in streetrods. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe the original, stock 1937 Ford Coupe had a Ford Flathead engine? Anyway, smallblock Chevy engines are great and fun to detail, as people do almost everything to customize them. Looking good!

Alex

BTW I think that's a Hydramatic tranny as well, another GM staple.

I saw an engine just like that at a car show. The owner used 1/2" aluminum adapters to put the Ford valve covers on his SBC.

Allright :) I replaced them for the stock valve covers, which also looks great!

The last days I worked hard on the body to get it ready for some paint.

First I sanded all the puttywork until it was good. After that I modified the sidepanels. Now you can look at the engine with the hood on his place. I added a sawblade behind the gap.

First I layed down 3 layers of TS-75 Champagne Gold.
Today I added BMF and than I layed down 3 layers of TS-65 Pearl Clear and 2 layers of TS-13 Clear for more dept in the metallic.

Tonight I dryfitted everything and also dryfitted the aluminium mirrors.

About a week it will be polished :) I think it will be a very nice colour when it's polished!

Please don't be offended, I just wanted to show what such a difference a subtle change makes. I do this mod to most all of my old fat fendered coupes.

the top image is yours, the bottom is the one I modified. See the difference?

give up? look at the top, rear corner of the door.

I am very impressed with this build. I think I'll have to break out my '37 sedan pretty soon. I might even have to "borrow" your color. I love it.

I spent some time this week to work on the engine.

First I removed the cobra valve covers and replaced them for improved original covers.

I also added the sparkplug wiring.

The sun was shining a lot last week and I placed the body everyday in the sun to let the paint dry.

This week I polished it. I started with grid 3600 til 12000 and than polished it with red, blue and white Tamiya Compound.

I love it :)

Next step is to fit the wheels on the chassis and finish the chassis. I also wanted to finish the body by adding all the little parts.

Looking great! Are you going to add a couple of hoses to the air conditioning compressor (on the right of the engine) and a wire to the alternator (on the left)? I love the paint color and the wheels.

After a little break (bussy with school and work) I did a lot on this car.

First the interior parts.

I painted the dashboard in body colour. Added a PE radio on it, and used a custom steeringwheel from an other Hotrod.

The part behind the seats is flocked with creme interiorflocking.

The doorpanels have some PE window openers (???)

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_002~13.jpg

I also used PE lincenseplate holder.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_003~11.jpg

After painted the frontseats I thought it was boring. So I used a Playboy magazine on the seat for some extra detail.

Also the engine is placed and finished.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_004~11.jpg

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_005~6.jpg

The chassis was almost finished already. The suspension is max. lowered. I only added 2 aluminium exhausttips on the exhaust today.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_006~6.jpg

I also finished this model this afternoon :)

Check the completed section for the final pics!
