Does anyone use, or has anyone heard anything good or bad about the "multicarrier" rear bumper by Kenesaw Mountain Accessories? I am looking for a spare tire carrying rear bumper, but I am on a tight budget and the Calmini and Shrockworks are outside of that.

You'll hear of problems with them from a few years ago, but lately they've been making good stuff.

Thanks offroadX im in the process of slowly making my X more off-road worthy. I scored a used ARB front bumper from a college friend who sold his X and now I am trying to get a heavy-duty bumper for the back.

I had a bad experience many years ago, but if you're trying to save money, then they're maybe your best bet. If you can have your truck at their shop I think you'll get a better result.

We've had some recent "experiences" with bumpers in our club this season. My main concern with bumpers is that manufacturers are putting in slots to give better adjustability. Fine for mounting the bumper where you want it, but you might want to consider welding a small 3-4" bead along the bumper and frame to help keep it from shifting when winching and pulling. Shops will usually do that for a $20 minimum.

I retrofitted my KMA with new frame sleeves to go around the rear open frame as the damn thing was uneven, and had the holes drilled straight into the frame. There is NO slop to shift, and my rear bumper is a great recovery tool now.

Thanks for the info. I may end up going with the KMA, far less expensive and I do have wheeling partner who is a professionial welder. I'm sure he can make up for any downfalls in the KMA bumper. I had a lifted hardbody pickup for wheeling that I sold a couple weeks ago. The money I got from that went straight to a Calmini lift and the Bumper got put on hold for a while. Probably not the most sound investment given the current state of economic turmoil, but definitely the coolest. I have had X for five months and I love it more everyday. I will try post pics (I don't have a digital camera) when I get the lift installed.
