Hello
I just bought a 97 Grand Caravan, and the front struts towers are really corroded, very bad and obviously can't be driven like this.
I know that Chrysler sells a kid and the metal plates to fix that "cosmetic repair" as they call that, but really is a safety issue.
Well my question is if somebody has made that by theirselfs and how difficult is to repair that using the Chrysler kid and plates?

Using the kit is a job to do, but well worth the time since it is a permanent fix.

You have to drop the struts from the front, remove all parts and wiring close to the towers and weld or bolt them in. I would let a shop do this.

Thanks, I heard that was a big job but no so hard. Maybe the best thing is as you say take it to a shop.

I had my left side done by the dealer, and you cannot tell there was ever a problem. They replaced the whole tower for $600, because mine was too far gone for the cap. I wanted to get rid of all the rust, since it is a critical area, I agree definitely not cosmetic. Check around your area for body shop estimates. I had mine done at the dealer's shop because most of the estimates here were within $100 of that, but the repairs I had seen didn't look like they would last. As an aside, the left side was ready to break through, but the right side still looks like new. Mine is a '97 also.
