knock sensor replacement----oem or aftermarket327chevy 04-20-2008, 10:14 AM I'm in the process of rounding up the parts to tackle the job of replacing the 2 knock sensors on my 99 e/c with the 5.3 and would like to know from those that may have done this as to what they used for replacements oems or aftermarket.I know that some electronic parts don't always act the same as oem stuff but I'd like to know how people have made out. There isn't a whole lot of difference in price in the 2 in my area, about $62-65 apiece but I usually deal with the local auto parts store for my replacement parts and they have Standard brand knock sensors.I've used Standard electronic parts for other vehicles and never had any problems but this is a knock sensor and I don't know how sensitive the electrical system is to non stock items. For all I know Standard may even make the things for GM. MT-2500 04-20-2008, 11:59 AM If you are going to replace them it is best to use the GM oem sensors. There was a post a while back where the dealer used one aftermarket sensor with one gm sensor. It did not work very good. They had to go back in and replace the aftermarket wit a gm OEM sensor. There is a lot of wiring problems on the sensors and problems with water gettin them to. A tsb on sealing them up with silcone. I would suggest you get a all data sub and go threw the repair flow charts test things out while you are in there. You may not even need sensors. http://www.alldata.com/products/diy/index.html Are you getting any codes? If so post back code no. MT tempfixit 04-20-2008, 12:04 PM Here is the thread that MT is talking about: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=896710 MT-2500 04-20-2008, 12:14 PM Thanks for finding it tempfixit. Post no 23 there tells about the one gm and one aftermarket sensors. 327chevy 04-20-2008, 02:36 PM Yeah I did have a code when the truck was scanned but I didn't write it down although I do know it was for the knock sensors as we looked it up at the time it was scanned with a Snap On scanner. Also I should note that I had the code cleared and the ses light went out until I got about 5 miles down the road and it came back on. j cAT 04-20-2008, 09:19 PM I'm in the process of rounding up the parts to tackle the job of replacing the 2 knock sensors on my 99 e/c with the 5.3 and would like to know from those that may have done this as to what they used for replacements oems or aftermarket.I know that some electronic parts don't always act the same as oem stuff but I'd like to know how people have made out. For all I know Standard may even make the things for GM. post back with dtc failure codes... standard parts i find to be inferior in quality, i talked to a rep. from that company and there attitude is one size fits all.......... xjcamaro89 04-21-2008, 08:16 AM I would deffinately go OEM (personal experience) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
