2002 Trailblazer LS ABS light problem

Hello All, sure hope someone can help out here. My 2002 Trailblazer ABS and parking brake warning lights have developed a mind of their own. There is no pattern as to when they come on and how long they stay on or if both lights or only one light comes on. At times they/it will come on at startup and stay on a while. Other times will come on when braking and go off again shortly after releasing the brake petal. Chevy dealership could not find a stored code but regrounded a ground wire (per a bulletin). That fixed the problem for 5 days. Back to the dealership, after a test drive with a diagniostic computer plugged in the technician tells me when the brake warning lights come on he looses comunication with the computer and suggested I might have an ECM problem that might be a $1000.00 repair job. Geeeez who has that kind of dough these days? Help please

Welcome to AF.
Sounds like they just want to throw parts at it.
IT May be a wiring or lose plug in.
Also if it is losing communication someplace there will be a stored code present/histoty in the computer system.

Needs proper testing by a good tech/mechanic that knows what they are doing.

Tip on going to the dealer
Ask that only a factory certified gasoline engine performance /ABS brake specialist work on your car.
Not all dealerships are concerned with how repairs are dispatched, and not all dealership techs bother to take advantage of the training offered by factory (the vast majority of which is paid training). If the dealer is uncooperative, ask for your money back and call around for a dealer that will accommodate you.

Or just find a good independent repair shop.

Check around Ask around
Word of mouth.
Family friends coworkers neighbors business people and delivery people.
Mailmen and parcel delivery people get around and notice a lot of stuff.
Even a good parts house knows what shops are good and not good.
Chamber of commerce and better business bureau and city hall.
If you find a good referral to a repair shop go look them over and talk to them.
Look for a clean looking busy place with nice people running it.
Ask a few questions and ask about their qualifications and training.
Not all places have trained tech/mechanics.
If they do not find a place that does.
Even all dealers do not have all trained techs/mechanics.

Good luck
And let us know how it goes.

Thank you MT for taking the time to post a reply. Reading past posts I find this is not an uncommon problem in 02 TB's. Also, the past posts tell me the problem starts when the vehicle reaches over 65k, mine is at 68k. Others have found the ignition switch caused the problem. As I am not very mechanicly literate that is a beyond my understanding.

You are welcome.

A good repair shop should be able to find the problem.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.
