Okay, for those of you with p10's in the contiguous United States...

What grade of fuel do you put in? I don't have anything special done to my G20, so I don't need to put in premium... I've been using mid-grade (plus/89) for the past month, and it's running pretty well, but I am cheap, and wondered if she'd still be running okay on low grade (87). I looked in the manual, but the gasoline codes they give don't make any sense [atleast to me].

Thanks so much in advance! :flash:

a friend of mine is WAY WAY cheap, and he puts nothing but 87 in his p1-, it runs fine.

87 is fine, no need to waste money unless your car i just soooo old or if you plan on using nitrous :D

here in denver the grades go 85,87,91. i guess b/c of the altitude. i usually put 87 (denver mid grade) in. unless you're altering your timing you don't need to put a high level octane in.

i live in boulder greekman. they are lowered by about 2 octanes, because of the altitude.

they still match up the same.

ie,

sea-level:
regular | plus | super/premium
87 | 89 | 92

mountains:
regular | plus | super/premium
85 | 87 | 91/92

so if your manual says to put in 87 - regular, you would put in regular for altitude - 85.

I burn 92 octane all of the time, whats 50 cents a tank full anyway.
This is what my car says when I pull up to the pump.

I run 92 all the time... but my timing is also at 19 degrees. When my timing wasn't at 19* I'd just run regular 87 octane. No use in paying for something I'm not going to use (or take advantage of in this case).

50 cents adds up...plus it can get you a 39 cent cheeseburger at Mickey D's on wednesday's lol :D

I stick with 87. Tried 89 & 92, didn't really notice any difference but then I haven't put on any mods yet. Heck, 87 octane is about 99 cents/gal here in San Antonio(for now, anyway).

I go with 89. Seems like 87 burns to quickly.

I felt like I had been coming back to the gas station more often. Seems like it runs throught quicker. I think small cars (metros/civics/accents/etc) should run on 87.

What's your average/best MPG with 89? My average is 25 and best is 31-32. I have a 95' auto G20, no mods yet.

Okay, someone asked what was the best MPG... I have been running 89 (or your plus) for a month and these are the readings I've gotten from my road trip:

Before I left (city) 24.46 mpg
5 hours driving (highway) 37.5 mpg
8.5 hours driving (highway and 2 hrs sitting in traffic) 31.82 mpg
5.25 hours driving (highway and 1 hr sitting in traffic) 35.38 mpg

I have a 1993 G20, 5-spd.

Oh, and I drafted off a semi for 90 miles during that 8.5 hour drive :) , but the 2 hours of stand-still traffic in Wash DC killed my mpg!!!

daaaaaamn! 37.5 mpg. i was happy today when i calculated 28 mpg for my last tank. even though you were drafting, that is still very high. i hate drafting-i like seeing the road in front of me. also semis don't go as fast as me:D but fyi for those who drive through wyoming- they have lots of cops, especially on I-80. i got a 93 in a 75 driving my grandma's buick a while back. the worst part was not me telling my dad and fear of death (j/k), but the fact that he laughed at me. wow, that was demeaning. no the worst part was the $275 fine i got:eek:  anyway saturntangerine- you get good mpg so keep up the good work.

I averaged over 35mpg (closer to 40 actually) on a trip from Phoenix to Tucson where i was driving 60-65 the whole way  Damn slow U-haul. ( I don't know the exact because i drove around town for a full day before filling up, but with all the in town stuff it was still about 36.x) When i drive back and forth by myself, i don't get nearly that good of gas mileage, but i'm also doing 85 or so. I've noticed a big difference in highway mileage depending on the speed (rpm). In town it's normally mid to high 20's (25-30) depending on how many times i get on the freeway (onramps rule! :D ) LOL!

This past weekend I went to P10DET's "geekout" in Houston. He gave me a lot of insight and info on the SR20 motor and how to get the most out of it. He also help to put on my Stealin, er, Stillen intake. Damn, it sounds nice!! One thing in particular he mentioned is the O2 sensor. For those of you who feel that your gas mileage is lower than it should be, you might want to replace it. As soon as I get mine done, I'll let ya'll
know how much my gas mileage improves.
