(bodywork 1) His majesty's F50rockinanko 04-15-2008, 07:43 PM Hi all! Take a look at what i've done to this tamiya F50, can figure out what i'm trying to copy!? It's 70% complete, ok pics first, i'll talk later... http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z217/sbc3133r/bol4.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z217/sbc3133r/bol2.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z217/sbc3133r/bol3.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z217/sbc3133r/bol1.jpg cheers!:evillol: marc SGP jmwallac 04-15-2008, 08:17 PM I'm guessing F50-GT? Looking forward to progress, whatever it is! M4tt83 04-15-2008, 09:13 PM It's the Sultan of Brunei's F50 Bolide. It looks like you've made a good start, but reference photos seem to be rather hard to find. MPWR 04-15-2008, 09:20 PM Once again, very nice work. I especially like the engine cover. Bet it will look terrific in primer and paint! :grinyes: druid_99 04-15-2008, 11:08 PM Hi Marc, Wow! It seems that you have started on the Bolide. Looks good overall. Just hope that there are more pictures of this car on the net though. Good luck with this project. bigfrit 04-16-2008, 02:04 AM AMAZING! the bolide, i ve always liked that design of the car ! Keep it up, you seem well underway! rockinanko 04-16-2008, 02:45 AM spot on AF! yes, this is the sultan's elusive bolide, based on the F50! for a moment i thought the shape was out when the first guess came in as a F50 GT! phew, after reading on...i'm relieved it does look something like it! i must say this mod is much much easier than the 288GTO evo & the 365P speciale that i'm stuck in... say, who moved the thread here!?!? i only wanna do the body for now...no plans to complete it cos no data on the rest of the car. so it does not qualify to be a WIP right?? humm... MPWR, yes...i heed your advice this time andy, just do enough to distinguish the mod from the original & forget about opening everywhere headaches! thankx bro. i really can breath easier this time! well said, there's simply too little info on this rare breed. i only based on some wild imagination & a few small pics to start it. but if you have more than what i've got, care to share with me please? i should be completing the front lip, doors, side skirts, rear light clusters & rear diffuser mod by this weekend...do come back to see the 100% body ok!? yes, only the body...it seems like i'm hooked on cutting, sanding filing & puttying only, nothing else... funny thing is, i don't know whatz next on the chopping board! may it be the FZ93, 612 shootong break, P4/5, 575 sedan...gee, i'm going drool over ferrari bodies! (if only the sultan is touched by my desperate effort of copying those ferraris he possess, he invites me one day to his garages & lend me a nikon SLR for half a day....fat hope) cheers! marc SGP rockinanko 04-25-2008, 02:20 AM OK! where was i....? yes, work continued on this weirdo, the front piece was not so easy as i thouught initially! i underestimated the curves & lines unique to the bolide, resulting in numerous reworking for 3 days! i've used up nearly the whole putty tube just for the front...blame it on my poor skills & lack of pics... http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z217/sbc3133r/a5.jpg the sides have to be cut out in order to build a new door shape, according to the few pics i have, bolide doors are much straighter than F50... http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z217/sbc3133r/a4.jpg as for the rear, with no data...i just have to glue a flat styrene piece to the rear first, and figure out what to do with this part. http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z217/sbc3133r/a3.jpg since there's not much info on this car, i welcome suggestions as to what to do to it in order to look like a 'nearly ferrari' look... http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z217/sbc3133r/a6.jpg don't worry, only the sultan knows if i've build the right or wrong bolide....so there's no right or wrong here!!!:nono: hehe...i'll be back! marc SGP druid_99 04-27-2008, 09:32 PM Looks good to me Marc. Again, best of luck in building the Bolide. The new shape looks similar from the picture. As for the body, you are correct, it looks like the Bolide is less curvier than the F50 (from the pictures available). Just hope that someone with a lot of pictures of this car comes across your thread and start posting a lot of reference picture here... I'm following this thread closely... One thing I'm curious though... from the few pictures in the net, it seems that the headlight are heavily tinted in black, in which this will make it easy for you (I think) or will you be using artistic license for the headlight cluster? Brus 04-28-2008, 03:23 AM Hi, I really enjoy looking at they way you go about things! Lovely! It's ten times easier with good refs, though. As for the rear, I found this through google. Hope it helps! http://www.geocities.com/sul288us/s14.jpg Keep it up! Johan rockinanko 05-06-2008, 04:07 PM Hi, here's a final update on the development of the Bolide F50 bodywork... http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z217/sbc3133r/bol1-1.jpg i don't know why, it looks as if not much mod / work has been done to it. trust me, ALOT of effort was used just to make this! http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z217/sbc3133r/bol2-1.jpg for the front nose, i managed to 'extend' the nose out of the body to give that bolide look. the bonnet piece was actually cut out & move back, seems the bolide has a sharper bonnet nose appearance... http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z217/sbc3133r/bol4-1.jpg this time round i followed the advice of one AF moderator to 'keep it simple'. closed doors are easier to mod, also i don't have to worry too much on panel fittings! i really like what i've do to the tail light cluster, fill up with putty & shaping it into something... http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z217/sbc3133r/bol5.jpg finally, take a look at the underneath...all colors other than plastic red are the areas i've laid my hands on. the next bolide builder can take some cue from here as to where to cut or fill or sand etc... ok, that's all for the sultans' bolide & the end for this thread... do join me in the [WIP] section if i decide to complete this car, but in the meantime...i'm looking at my ferraris once again, to see which is next up the chopping board! cheers marc SGP thadude 05-06-2008, 04:48 PM Some great body work going on in here! Keep it up ;) druid_99 05-06-2008, 09:18 PM Marc, Just a suggestion here. Maybe if you can lay a few layers of primer on the body and post it here so that we can get the overall look of the whole car without the red, white and yellowish colour because of the modifications. Then maybe you can post the real picture of the Sultan's F50 Bolide and yours side-by-side from the same angle so that we can see the similarity. Just a suggestion though. Imran drunken monkey 05-06-2008, 09:20 PM If you finish off the body and get it in primer, maybe someone (or even yourself) can get a master made in silicone for casting. rockinanko 05-06-2008, 11:44 PM very well, if that's what you all wanted...i'll try to prime it ASAP. i wanted to show the 'raw' form of what i did so that the next bolide builder can see clearly where are the 'touched' parts of the body. stay tune...:eek7: marc SGP rockinanko 06-15-2008, 04:36 AM Hi there! some body updates to show... http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z217/sbc3133r/bol9.jpg i guess i have to re-do the whole rear panel once again. the fitting to the main body is so bad even after numerous sanding & puttying (poor skills). also, the shape of the panel is not too correct, judging from some latest pics on the rear...guess i have to start all over again! meanwhile i've fill up those weak areas that need strength when i start to cut the rear wing out... http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z217/sbc3133r/bol8.jpg i've pondered over the issue of 'is there any headlights' on the bolide for quite some time now... my logic gets the better of me, which street car has no headlights!? maybe there is under the black glass... so i choose a spare modena headlight assembly for this. i opened up the filled hole again & try to fit a modified modena light into the hole, trying my best to form about the same shape as what was on the bolide. how does it look like to you ferrari bros, any violent objections? http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z217/sbc3133r/bol7.jpg so much for the work for today...will proceed filling up the holes around the headlight rings when i have the time tonite. cheers! marc SGP vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
