My buddy has a 2000 grand Cherokee with about 100,000 on the engine and he has cracked number 1 cylinder. When he checked he still had lots of fluid in the cooling system. So whets up? This is an old style straight 6. This engine should last 300,000 miles. Any thoughts
Thanks

Cracked cylinder or cracked head? Either way not good, although heads can sometimes be welded.
It was purported by some Jeep owners that there were some bad head castings manufactured around 1999-2000 that cracked between the #3 and #4 cylinders. Chrysler will do the repair only if it is still under factory warranty, which your friends is not.
Like the saying goes -- it happens.

Like the saying goes -- it happens.I have a 99 loredo v8 4.7 first we thought it was a head gasket that went. when we removed it we found a crack on the head aswell. The job is costing me 2 grand.
