Does anyone know if the 280zx turbos ever came in 5 speed or was it just auto. I've seen turbos with T5s. also, does anyone know where i can find carbon fiber hoods for late modle z cars?

The 280zx turbo came with both auto and 5spd tranys. the '83 turbo had the borg warner t5, some '79's have 4spds, all others had normal 5spds. When you say late model z cars do you mean 300zx's? Well if you are talkin about 280's then i dont think so, i dont even think you can get a fiberglass hood anymore. As for the 300's i duno..

Are you sure about the 4 spd? i've looked all over the net and through some really old Popular Mechanincs and they talk about how the egine and optional transmitions (auto and 5spd) were the only things that carried into the new '79 model. I also heard that in the '81 turbo z was first released only in auto. But then again we are talking about Popular Mechanics, not a real car magazine.

Im pretty sure there were some 4spds in 79 but i could be wrong. As for the turbo at...maybe when it was first released i only came in at but that seems pretty unreasonable to me being that the turbo was the performance model.

yo, i just looked through some old popular Mechanics that i found in my grandma's basement. They say that the transmitions for the 280zx were just the optional ones from the old 280z (entailing the 5spd manual and the 3 speed auto) they said that the engine and the optional trans were the only things carried over to the zx from the z.
