i had t replace the mirror switch about 2 weeks ago and just yesterday the new one had a puff of smoke come out when i tried to move the pass side mirror, the switch still moves the mirrors in every direction but up. i was wondering if the switches are known to be faulty or if i have a short somewhere. thanks for any help

I don't know if the mirror switch is particularly prone to problems or not but the wires that travel from the body to the door are really susceptible to breaks due to the constant opening and closing. I had 2 wires short and break in the passenger door last fall. I'd open the door compartment and look at the wiring. It really sounds like something is grounding.

New parts doesnt always mean good parts.. HEHE.. But yes ther maybe a grounded wire.
Talk about your old switch did it work except up? Or was it just dead in every direction? May give you some clues, And since you have two switches now, Open the old one up and look in the cotacts. Then follow the wires from the connector for the correct color your looking for at the Pass door.
Or, maybe you have a bad New Switch, which Ive been ther before.
