My A/C compressor will not turn on. The clutch does nothing when I press the button, or select the defroster.

I checked the fuse and that is ok.


What do I check next?

do you know what the low pressure switch is or where it's located? it's a sensor attached to the top of the accumulator, at least thats where it is on those, someone correct me if I am wrong. unplug the harness from it and it should have 2 pins, with the car running, and the ac turned on, jump the pins in the harness with a paperclip. if this causes the compressor to turn on it's almost certain the charge is low.

hey no worries, just makes it easier to help. just start up by the firewall where the two aluminum a/c lines come out and follow them untill you find the sensor, it'll be the only one on there. then do the test posted earlier, adn remember the engine will be running so watch out for moving components, good luck, let me nkow what you get.

If it does go on, is it safe to run or will I blow out my compressor?

if it goes on when you jump the plug then that means you are low on freon meaning add freon because the freon has oil for the compressor and if its low then the compressor will not get enough oil hence the low pressure switch will not turn on the compressor to save it from burning out so recharge the ac system

wow, no dont leave it running like that, it will lock up. And as wiseguy said, If it turns on when you jump it, it's the charge. I would reccomend you take it to someone for that, since you dont know whats in the system now, just pumping a can of walmart fixit yourself crap, not only is it a good way to end up spending monsy later, but it can be dangerous. Now, if it doesnt turn on when you do this there is another test but we'll worry about that when the time comes
