Honda Prelude - 4th generation - Fujimi - 1/24 - detailedGuido 04-10-2008, 05:18 PM I've started this one already a while ago, but didn't came around to post any progress on here. So, this is to make up for that and share what I've been doing so far. This is the kit http://forum.depaddock.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=7719&d=1191877217 And this is the color it'll be in http://forum.depaddock.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=7723&d=1191877248 First up is the chassis. Nothing special to report here. Painted with detail painting touches here and there. http://forum.depaddock.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=8691&d=1199112953 Onto the body then. It's an interesting kit, given that on the inside of the roof, you have the sunroof outlined, so you can cut it out, to have it in an open position - which I did. http://forum.depaddock.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=8692&d=1199112969 Modifications then. As the sun roof will be open, the inner frame work needs to be build up from scratch. Plastic card did the trick and on the image you see the 2 locations where the roof will be "pinned down" into the rails. http://forum.depaddock.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=8898&stc=1&d=1200260219 I've also replaced the kit's radio antenne. Note that the top bit has been cut off, as it was oversized. http://forum.depaddock.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=8901&stc=1&d=1200260219 I did struggle a bit in the beginning to get the primer laid down well, but after some good wet sanding it was all ok. http://forum.depaddock.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=9144&stc=1&d=1201990639 Here the color is applied http://forum.depaddock.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=9363&stc=1&d=1203286259 And finally, 2K clear coat was applied, compounded and panel lines painted matt black. http://forum.depaddock.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=9500&stc=1&d=1204579702 The interior will be next. rsxse240 04-10-2008, 06:50 PM very nice. The color is perfect. this is my favorite prelude body style. tonioseven 04-10-2008, 08:38 PM Mmmmmm tasty!! It's great to see you posting a WIP! :sunglasse Guido 04-11-2008, 02:36 PM Thank you! Interior is next. Reference images I found on the web, were showing that the rear seats from the kit, did not really correspond with the reality. The reality of the "post-facelift models". Hard to call it a facelift, as the changes were minimal at the mid-life update. The forementioned rear seats, plus the front indicators in white iso orange and complete silver headlamp units were the most visible changes. Anyways, this is how the kit part is looking, so I started cutting into it. http://forum.depaddock.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=9509&stc=1&d=1204668821 The part indicated with the blue arrow will be re-used. The other one went straight into the bin. http://forum.depaddock.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=9510&stc=1&d=1204668821 Re-shaping and remodeling brought me to this: http://forum.depaddock.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=9605&stc=1&d=1205271390 Then, it was time to paint everything in matt black. It doesn't get any more boring then this, so additional detailing painting is required to get some variations in there http://forum.depaddock.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=9787&stc=1&d=1206998342 Once dry, I taped all the areas that were to remain plain matt black. The non-masked areas where then covered with super fine embossing powder - the same technique I introduced here last year with my 307WRC. http://forum.depaddock.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=9790&stc=1&d=1206998342 Once this was dry, I painted the seats and door arm rest in matt dark grey. The black as the night is starting to reveal its details... thanks to some dry-brushing as well http://forum.depaddock.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=9839&stc=1&d=1207340598 I called the thread "detailed", so it's time to bring in the detailling On the dashboard you can see the radio-CD that was added in PE - I also added the on-off button as this was not so visible - and the ignition key. A PE Honda logo was placed on the steering wheel. http://forum.depaddock.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=9862&stc=1&d=1207598736 Then, the rear seats got their seat belts and respective receivers and also PE speaker covers were added. http://forum.depaddock.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=9864&stc=1&d=1207598736 View from the other side, to give an additional look on the radio-cd and ignition-key http://forum.depaddock.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=9863&stc=1&d=1207598736 Finally, the front seats were added also. Note the seat belt receivers as well as the handles to tilt the seats forward as additional details. http://forum.depaddock.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=9870&stc=1&d=1207692498 At this stage I can turn my focus again on the body. The main challenge now will be mating the front seat belts with the b-pillar of the car. As soon as I'm there, you'll get to see another update. Thanks for looking! Martin S 04-11-2008, 02:56 PM Great detailing. I love these preludes, and you chose the right color aswell. Extra credits for not pimping it ! gionc 04-12-2008, 02:09 PM Those Guido's powders.... dammn :D. The cleaning lady remember yet your name :D This is officially my second kid Nino's first model: he stealed from my stash and messed up :D. Ok he felt fun at last :D Looks me that Guido become a machinist? Also you in the AF machining family? Great :) Great job: I must say that this is the only street Honda I like (also the sharp next one). willimo 04-12-2008, 03:31 PM Looking great! I really like these cars a lot, and you're build a stellar model of it. Fantastic work, so far. Guido 04-12-2008, 04:10 PM Thanks for the responses! Highly appreciated. @ Gio, Unfortunately, I did not become a machinist. The parts you see here, are watch maker spare parts... :grinyes: longman0072 04-13-2008, 04:19 AM a special theme on car model !! looks good!! andybmw7272 04-13-2008, 08:52 AM I like details! This looks great. Andy sjelic 04-14-2008, 03:11 AM Nice one Guido, interior is fantastic. MidMazar 04-14-2008, 09:51 PM The powder really looks great, i need to try it. DVST8R 04-16-2008, 02:12 AM I'm building one of these at the moment (though nowhere near as nice looking as yours). Its a very strange kit, its meant to screw together instead of being glued. kaho 04-16-2008, 03:15 AM I thought the door panels are a nice addition to this old fujimi kit. MA8 04-18-2008, 01:40 AM I've stunned by your drybrushing work. Which silver (grey?) paint did you use for chassis drybrushing? Guido 04-19-2008, 05:00 PM Thanks everyone for the replies. Much appreciated. :) I've stunned by your drybrushing work. Which silver (grey?) paint did you use for chassis drybrushing? The chassis was first painted semi-gloss black. Then, I lightly airbrushed matt black over the semi gloss, to get different shades. Once dry, I drybrushed with enamel alu from Tamiya and I think I finished with some tints from the Tamiya weathering sets (including white). Next update then. The window rubbers have been painted, also matt black. Maybe I'll drybrush them as well, to give them that semi-gloss look, but up to this point I'm still undecided about that. Note the left-hand side indicator that also has been done. http://forum.depaddock.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=9943&stc=1&d=1208637138 http://forum.depaddock.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=9944&stc=1&d=1208637138 Big Kahuna 04-20-2008, 10:52 AM Guido, That looks fantastic so far. tonioseven 04-20-2008, 04:35 PM I'm quite sure that there is not a better build of this car to be found anywhere! :sunglasse Guido 04-20-2008, 05:20 PM Thanks again for the compliments. Work continues. The front lamp units, side indicators, bumper lip and number plates have been finished and mounted. Note that the front side indicators are white and not yellow. This is because I'm making a post-facelift model, hence the modifications to the rear seats. This is also the reason why the front lamp units and completely in chrome and not partially chrome, partially black, as was the case with the pre-facelift models. http://forum.depaddock.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=9956&stc=1&d=1208725612 As I was getting curious to see how it'll look when finished, I dry-fitted all parts done so far. Starts to look like a real Prelude. :) http://forum.depaddock.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=9957&stc=1&d=1208725612 MA8 04-21-2008, 12:31 AM The chassis was first painted semi-gloss black. Then, I lightly airbrushed matt black over the semi gloss, to get different shades. Once dry, I drybrushed with enamel alu from Tamiya and I think I finished with some tints from the Tamiya weathering sets (including white). Thank you for explanation. I'll try to reproduce the same effect on my own models. sjelic 04-21-2008, 03:50 AM It is a real beauty, looks real, that is the most important thing. Great work Guido. Jay! 04-21-2008, 06:57 PM Looks real good so far! You're doing a great job with a WEIRD kit! :) Guido 05-02-2008, 04:36 PM The rear lights are finished and have been mounted, as are the rear windows. I've dryfitted the finished rear wiper to see the fitment, as it has been modified also. The arm itself is kept from the kit, but the wipers and blade have been replaced with a PE part. http://forum.depaddock.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=9964&stc=1&d=1209759951 http://forum.depaddock.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=9965&stc=1&d=1209759951 Need to bring it to Carglass (Autoglass) now to get the front window installed. :naughty: http://forum.depaddock.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=9966&stc=1&d=1209759951 NSX Fan 05-02-2008, 05:35 PM Now who says that exotics are the most beuatiful and desirable subjects? I'd love to have this on on my shelf! starbai 05-06-2008, 02:24 PM Wow. I'm just floored. That looks, rediculiously amazing. I found this thread beacuse I was google searching looking for a 1:24 DIE CAST of this generation Prelude to add to my collection (i try to get a model of every car i've ever owned, and I just bought a 92 to put mileage on) Anyway, I can't seem to find a diecast of the 4th gen prelude anywhere, and I really want one. If you ever wanna sell this (or make one for me) let me know! I'd love to make one myself, but I've not done one of these kits since I was like 12 and back then they are all pre painted and stuff, just snapped them together. starbai@gmail.com if you're interested! 924_CarreraGTS 05-10-2008, 05:49 PM This is a really nice build. It's cool to see some "ordinary" cars once in awhile after all the exotics and muscle machines. Stunning work. Maybe if I tried curbside kits I could get more done!! Mojo_stevo 05-20-2008, 07:53 PM Great work, makes me miss my old Lude. Does the kit only come with the automatic shifter? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
