An insider at an SVT site I frequent stated that it's about 80% Mondeo. The article stated that it will have a turbocharged engine, but didn't state that it will be available with AWD.

So yeah.

The 2010 Taurus will be available with a TTV6 and AWD. Think about that.

And I was starting to think Ford didn't like America anymore. Not bad, not bad at all.

not bad, but why do they have to call it a taurus? that car name has such a bad stigma. . .

Money says it'll still be your standard Ford POS.

Well the looks have improved, lets see if the rest of the car has...

I'll wait to hear the specs and such. For now...it's got a TTV6. In the future...probably be a toned down V6 sedan made to compete against cars such as the Camry, or Maxima...

It is an interesting concept to say the least. I do agree with Jayson though, the car's name has a history of being stuck to a plain boring car...

Turbo Fords have always been nice but they lack alot of refinement. Unfortunately the Taurus has a reputation for being a piece of junk. I honestly dont expect much just cause of the name.

On the other had due to GM's importation of the Monaro and Commodore. (GTO and G8) Ford has announced they are seriously considering bringing the FPV Falcon to america. The old Aussie Falcon had a 4.0 Turbo V-6 with 365 BHP. The new one has a V8 making 385 BHP and can corner harder then any Mustang ever made.
Americans invented the Muscle car but those bastards down under perfected them.

Piece of junk or not, the Taurus name has been around a long time and has sold a lot of cars for Ford.

I have been reading about this "ecoboost" motor that ford is going to be using. It actually sounds pretty awesome. Its going to likely be replacing v8s in everything from trucks to mustangs. Crazy I know... but with some of the things I am reading they are saying it will come in 400 horsepower setups for some cars. I say bring it on.

If it's based off the Mondeo then I don't think it will be a pile of crap. Granted I agree about the name. However, they tried calling it the 500 and when that didn't work they went back to Taurus.

Sadly, sales didn't improve. Here's an idea, call it the Mondeo.

Mondeo gets my vote for the name. The older taurus' are downt there with 90's cavaliers in my book, but this looks like a very large step in the right direction. Seems like everyone is moving from V8s to boosted 4s and 6s. I'm not complaining at all :) A turbo taurus/mondeo? sounds like a winner to me.

If they can pull it off, that is.

Definently has a more euro look to it. I think they should just call it a Mondeo. People will think its new and actually go for it.

Changing the name would be a massive failure for Ford. Its all about branding. For car guys like us, the name Mondeo does mean something. However, the enthusiast market is minimal at best when it comes to volume sales. Ford needs to use a name that has brand equity behind it. In the United State, Mondeo does not. Whether or not you'd like to admit, amongst appliance shoppers who are looking for a cheap point a to point b lease. That is what the Taurus name stands for, and that is whats going to sell.

While I have seen the hopes of otherwise, I really wouldn't put much faith in the Ecoboost going into Mustangs. One, it goes against everything the Mustang represents. Despite the massive influx and availability now of FI'd and high revving naturally asperated motors, Mustang sales in the form of an under powered V6 and nothing special in technology V8 continue to truck along. Two, you don't put the words "eco" and Mustang together.

Applying some stupid "eX7rem3 marketing campaign" to this thing would kill it. Let this thing sell in NA average power V6 form and push sales up. Then, after a year, bring over the turbo six version, release it as the Taurus SHO, and you'll have something to go up against the G8.

Mushi, there is a joke here at work the slowly but surely, Pontiac is becoming Holden US, lol.

Actually, the EcoBoost motor will be going into some Mustangs in 2010 or so. You will have a choice between their 400HP+ 5.0 V8, or the 300HP-400HP TTV6.

It's how Ford is planning to still make performance Mustangs, and meet the new CAFE standards.

Hey man I hope so! I love Holdens. They may not be the fastest cars around but they are in the top three.
The Monaro and Commodore SS have always been personal favorites of mine.
The FPV Falcon and Typhoon are the only two Fords I would ever buy.

Aussies make great cars, they have to. Australia is a country of extremes. When its hot it is scortching hot, like 123 degrees at 3 p.m. hot!
When it rains it flash floods, and when you run out of road you end up in the most treacherous and destructive terrains on the planet.
The ressult is cars that have to be built to cope with this kind of climate year after year.

Oh and btw have you seen the new Pontiac G8 truck bed version. It looks like the El Camino but with a G8 front end. It has the same V8 and everything. Plans are to import it for 2009.

That strikes me as a very ugly vehicle. Who came up with the idea to turn the GTOs little brother into a SUT? haha, i dont know, i just think that would look god awful. Keep the car how it is, I love how the G8 looks with a rounded ass.

That'll sell.

It's about as useful as a Chevy SSR... but look how many of those were sold. Some people like the car/truck configuration. Look how many Chevy El Camino's and Ford Ranchero's were sold over the years... there is a market for it.

MZR_47

It does look disturbingly similar to the SSR, just squarerer. But then again SSRs are straight up beasts... i dont know. Not my song and dance.

maybe with a little tweaking to the body of the G8camino, it would be a pretty cool deal. maybe even just make it a full blown Ford Lightning type mini truck from hell?

Meh.

I'd rather have THIS bad-boy (it's being touted as a G8 GXP Coupe, or even a new GTO). It's got the supercharged CTS-V motor that's an LS9 variant:

I've heard rumors of both. The announced production version in Oz is the 6.0 N/A, but the big old letters spelling B-O-O-S-T on the concept car's digital readout is proclaiming other things. :evillol:

BOOST is actually how people outside of America say "RPMs" Common misconception :) hehe

Anyhow, that is the sickest car ive seen in a long time. That exhaust has me all hot and bothered. I hope they dont change the looks on that sucker because she is a thing of perfection as it is. If god drove a car, this would be his daily driver.

Anyone else notice where the window controls are? that would take some getting used to. Atleast, i think those are window controls... then again there are four of them and only two windows

You're talking about slang, even though I've never heard of RPM referred to as "boost."

In official automotive parlance, "boost" is boost, and engine speed is measured in RPMs. I have yet to see any car, even the obscure cars in China, and the cheap cars by Tata in India, read anything other than "RPM" for engine speed.

They would probably change it up at least somewhat, add another pillar, maybe smaller wheels...

Thats a common set up in many cars. Sometimes they are spread out, sometime they are all together. It was like that on my BMW, all the window controls on the center console. It makes it easier when switching between a RHD and LHD platform.

Yeah the GTO and the G8 have the window controls in the center dash, all Holden cars do.
Thats a sick car but its not a new GTO, far as Bob Lutz is concerned the GTO was a failure and naming another car "GTO" would just make people sceptical again.
Thats probably why they called the new Commodore the G8 instead of what it really is, the new Pontiac Catalina!
Does the badge on the door say "BIO-FUEL"???

The "GTO" is simple speculation as to what the car can be converted to. The most likely form it will take in the US, if it ever comes, is as a G8 coupe.

Yes. It's E85 capable.

I thought thats how it worked but i wasnt sure. not really familiar with those sort of layouts. I live a sheltered life.

And i was kidding about the BOOST being RPMs thing, i was hoping you would catch my sarcasm. I guess not. Im not retarded, i made an awful attempt at being relatively funny.

I want to see that SOB stateside very badly.
