94 escort Wont turn over Starter goodhoneybunny72_99 04-09-2008, 08:05 PM Husbands car died when turning onto our road the other night. It was cranking but not starting. Now you turn key and get nothing.Starter bench tests good. All lights and chimes work until you turn the key.Alternator is also good. rhandwor 04-09-2008, 10:30 PM Check for loose battery terminals. mightymoose_22 04-09-2008, 11:30 PM If it died while driving then I would suspect the timing belt. It may not be cranking now if the battery has been run down attempting to start the car again. Davescort97 04-10-2008, 11:31 AM I agree on the timing belt. If it has broken the engine will turn over but at an uneven rate. If everything goes dead when you turn on the key it could be a dead battery or the igniltion switch could be bad. denisond3 04-10-2008, 01:31 PM If you go to start it, have the dome light turned on. When the battery is okay, the dome light should stay on even while the engine is cranking. If its goes out, I would look for a corroded connection at the negative post on the battery, and the several connectons at that point and where the negative wire connects to the engine. The dome light might dim very slightly, but not much. AzTumbleweed 04-10-2008, 06:33 PM Have you tried jump starting it? Check the fuel cut-off switch too. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
