There are many possible reasons for ticking when cold, including piston slap, dry lifters, low oil pressure, and others. If the water pump is making noise, repair or replace it. Just make sure the problem is the water pump, since the air conditioner compressor clutch is also notorious for making a "scraping noise" when the A/C is off. As for the "jumping" at highway speeds, it sounds like there may be an issue with the torque converter clutch and/or transmission, but scanning the PCM to read the error codes might be the fastest and easiest way to solve the problem. 1995lumina 03-31-2008, 10:04 PM well it really jerks going up hills the same thing it does goin 45 to 50 and 55 to 60and when goin up hills it wont go no faster then 45. and how do u tell if ur oil pressure is low?
