hey, im looking into buying a 85 grand prix. im only 14 and im might trade him my 86 camaro 2.8l v6 for it. but his 85 grand prx has a 350 4 barrel with 152 000kms on it. it has a eldlebrock aircleaner and new valve covers and new alternator and rad hoses. but everything else seems stock. well wen me and my dad took her fo a spinaround the block. he floored it and it wouldent even burnout! it was running smooth but i though a 350 shoulda done a burn out. and it dident. so do u think theres a major problem and i shouldent make the trade!!?? PLZ REPLY:frown:

Fourth gen prix's didn't have a 350 from the factory, with the exception of that crappy Olds 350 diesel.
If its stock then its a 305 with around a pathetic 170 horsepower. It won't do a burn out if your already rolling. You would be doing good to smoke the tires longer then 20 feet from a stop.(and thats with "help")......you'll figure all that out eventually.

As said, dogged on power, and no gearing either.

hey i just had a birthday so ill be the crodgity old man here....

its a bad idea for your first car to be able to do burnouts. theres a reason muscle cars from the past faded away. everytime one got wrapped around a telephone pole, kids died in carloads. Work your way up, i started with a 77 olds with a chevy 350, it only outran mostly stock preludes and such, but it was a small block, i learned alot wrenching on it, and was safe behind 2 tons of steel. i LOVED that car, and cried the day we sold it, despite the fact that i upgraded to an RS camaro. after i drove that for a while, i got the IROC. and now, wouldnt ya know it, i drive a 140hp 5200lbs truck :)

just saying, i give mad props, and cant fault you for being into the smell of burned rubber in the morning, and im sure as shit not your dad, but just sayin, the burnout shouldnt be a selling point on your first car IMHO.

I just replaced my tires a couple months ago. You don't want a car that can burnouts when you're that young. You'll be replacing tires before too long, especially if they had a lot of use in em like mine did. Also, if you live in a smaller town like mine, burnouts draw attention from the dozen local police who have almost nothing to do. The 2.8 isn't a beast, it won't win many races, but it will get you by. I can still pull an occasional one-wheel wonder if i'm really bored. Also, you'll be replacing a clutch or rebuilding an auto tranny before long if you get too addicted to burning rubber. My clutch cost almost $450-$500. It wasn't worth it.

Oh, and treat the 2.8 allright and it should last you to college at least. I know a kid with an 89 camaro with a 2.8 that has somewhere around 290,000 miles on it. This kid drives everywhere like he's in the Daytona 500. That engine has seen every condition and RPM possible. He runs it at redline for shits and giggles. Just treat it right and it will treat you right.

keep the camaro.. i've owned a few 2.8's you cant kill them with normal driving, the 305's are kinda useless for getting power from.. and a rolling burnout even with a stock 350 would be tough unless you have the geared rearend/trans..

I'd ask the guy if he put the 350 in cause they don't offer one for those yrs. Even if it is a 350 it could be a wimpy one. back in the mid 70's till about 86 most 350's were dogs cause of the stricter emissions. Keep in mind you can totally build a wimpy 350 to a monster. Like the other dude said, 305's are looked down upon for making power and it's true they do kinda suck. I say keep the camaro, if it's in decent shape, and get your self a 350. or even a 400 small block. Then again i dunno how your folks are, i know mine are dicks when it comes to working on cars in there garage and shit.

ha, would you rather be 26, working two jobs, kid on the way another thats three and living with your parents? Let me add that i live with my grandmother, grandpa, dad, and mom.. My moms immature and screams all day, and my dad is a huge prick. my grandmother keeps my wife and i up all night cause shes a stroke victom and now she makes animal sounds instead of speaking in words.. Mean while my ex girl friend, with whom i have my 3yr old daughter with, gets all money money through child support, and lives in a nice ass apartment with not a worry in the world. Let me further add that she is physically violent and mentally unstable. she has a dui and has been arrested over 15 times for fighting. i'm in the process of going to court right now to gain full physical custody of my daughter, but everyone thinks shes a great mom cause she takes my daughter to her doctors visits. this is the reason i live with my parents, we are saving money until courts over with cause i may need a bigger home if i get my daughter. don't mean to rant but sometimes the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Maybe you can feel good about your life seeing how fucked up it really could be.

Just for the record i'm not some bum minority who's lazy/uneducatted and doesn't want to work. I grew up in a great neighborhood, graduatted highschool, went to colledge, but just can't catch a break.

heh heh im the 20 year old dude that cant move out because i dump all my money in my stupid project that has occupied my parents garage for 3 years so far. anywho, i believe some 80's and late 70's 350's were only rated at around 145 horsepower, which is chicken shit. you want to make sure that the reason it wont burn out is not because of an internal problem. i bought my project without knowing the cam was pretty much shot, so it backfired through the carb all the freakin time. plus who needs burnouts anyways, they just prove to the world that your grand prix can only do a one-wheel-wonder. the motor might not even be a 350. it could be a 283 or a 305 or something like that, which would suck to find out after buying the car.

If you want to know what kind of motor it is or what it came out of (year model)just get the numbers off of the back of the motor and look them up on www.mortech.com you can find out everything there.

damn u guys are in love with the 350's and hate a lot on 305, Im thinking on proving u wrong let me see if I can find a 305 with a low buget and put some numbers on the table

cuda_dude
04-06-2008, 11:16 PM
I think the only reason people hate on the 305 is because it takes a lot more money to reach the same hp as the 350. They are both great engines but the 350 has more power and room to expand to begin with.

I went to the doctors to get a hearing and eye test done for work and there was this old ass dude that could barley walk, and he was there getting the same test done. he had to get a job and he had already retired.

i have confidence that whoever is elected will follow in the same empty, brainless, footsteps of the tool before he. the President is just a public puppet on congresses vindictive little hand. All these folks running promise this and that and to make changes, but nothing ever changes.. things always get worse. gas goes up even though exon has been making record profits. Minimum wage is pathetic. There was a article i read that states in order to rent a two bedroom apartment one would have to make at least $14hr. Where do you live making 6.25 an hr... And all you hear about now is how the economy is in a resession. well no shit, no one can effort to buy anything anymore. when i was 17 i could cruise around all day with 5 bucks in the tank. Now 5 bucks gets me about 40 miles in my stupid saturn. This nation needs to pull together and strongly protest these large companies that are essentially ruining this country and many other. there is no god damn reason why gas should be almost 4 bucks. we are not running out of crude oil! and anyways how the fuck would they know that. theres no possible way to know that. are technology just isn't that advanced. Some freakin texan out in the desert ran 1 area dry, turns around and says, " yup shes empty", and now we all pay 3 bucks more for the same shit. It's gay and they will continue this because americans are pussies and let things slide. i wish we were more like israel.. protest with semi automatics and the heads of jews lol no seriously this shit needs to stop.

From what I've been studying, out of the number of reasons gas prices are sky high, 2 of them play the biggest part.

1. The towel-heads in the Middle East, OPEC. They keep production low and the price of crude high. Some say it's because of Iraq, but the middle east has never had much love for the U.S.

2. Oil Speculators. These are people who keep investing and investing and investing and investing in oil because it's a seemlessly fail-proof investment. There is over $25 BILLION dollars invested in oil, and this provides the oil companies with incentives to jack prices up and make their stocks and futures more and more lucrative, because that's where they make the real money.

I honestly feel that while it won't happen over night, that market has to buckle sometime. We saw it this last year or two in the housing market. It can only support so much inflation. Eventually, the investors will have to start backing out, and in a few years, we'll see a gradual correction to this crisis. Oil production from other countries is starting to catch up with OPEC, and we'll be getting oil from countries that don't have such a fierce hatred for everything that we stand for. Another thing that we NEED to do is kick these liberals out of congress so that we can open up oil production in the United States, and remove some of the overwhelming restrictions on oil refineries that are in place because of the EPA.

alright, brothers! now what can WE do?!?!?!?!?!

daveshapellSVT

There should be a cut off point to how much a barrel of crude oil can cost. problem is that the government(politicians) are part of the issue. they must somehow be benefitting from high oil prices. Same way they regulate how much a gallon of milk cost they should regulate gas prices. In a way oil is more important then milk. You can get calcuim many different ways you can only use gas to power your car. Which reminds me of another situation. we need to become more efficient. these gay hybrids are barley any better then normal cars and they aren't very driver friendly. electric cars are a joke, you have to recharge them constantly and they have a short range. Now we have the "flex" fuel vehicles where you can run that E85 shit. heres the thing with that. 1 out of 900 gas stations are equiped for ethanol. Plus ethanol doesn't burn as good so you actually get less mpg using it. so the cheapness in price just gets out done by the more frequent fill ups. This country has many problems all of which are making the lives of middle class and poverty striken families impossible. Health insurance is a complete joke. you shouldn't worry about your health 24/7 or how to pay a 2400 hospital bill.. health insurance cost way too much. Sometimes they deny you for " preexsisting conditions"... So even if one could get health insurance who can afford it? Right now my wife and i are having a baby girl and no health insurance company will cover my wife and baby because they are a high risk. I received a quote for just my wife and i after the child is born and it's 300 bucks a month. thats like having a second car payment. Not even including co pays and crap..i only take home 310 a week at my one job. so one entire paycheck is supposed to go to health insurance....America is a scam and we the ppl are getting screwed over while polititians and big company ceo get billions. we gotta turn this shit around.

good luck to you, man. and i have the answer to the fuel problem... everyone run their cars on homemade moonshine! this is no joke! it is possible and i actually heard about this. but the people making it had to put a poison in it for it to be legal.(which supposedly doesnt hurt your engine) what do yall think about that??!?!!:grinyes:

daveshapellSVT
04-18-2008, 09:19 AM
hmm i'd imagine moonshine is very potent. I think we have the technology to make cars that can get 50+mpg on a gas engine. It's just not profitable to produce these vehicles. Cause ppl would fill up less. I myself will never buy a hybrid. I have enough trouble driving my 100hp saturn, i'm not gonna down grade to some 50hp half electric thing thats annoying to drive just to get 10 more mpg..i mean think about our technology and brain power to get things done. NASA started the program to land on the moon in the early 60's. it took 8yrs to get there. 8 yrs to build a space craft to travel to the moon. cars have been around since 1902. in over a 100yrs we can't build a car that can go further on a tank of gas. i mean sure we've had small improvements here and there, but not nearly good enough for a 100yrs... i mean think about it we still buy vehicles from dealerships that get 10-11mpg in the city.. thats rediculous.. every car should get 40+ without comprimising power or comfort, ESPECIALLY, at the prices we pay for cars...

Sorry i vent a little sometimes:lol: .. I just think about things like technology and mankind and it sucks that we are not making progress as human beings because a portion of the population is motivatted by greed. We are being held back by these controlling groups.. When i was a kid i certainly imagined things being different by the yr 2008.. Nothing has really changed, just clothing styles and minimal upgrades in entertainment. In the past 26 yrs i've witnessed a heavy wooden, poor color/picture, tv with 3 channels change into a flater, slightly better picture tv with 800 viewable channels... thats pathetic. we are the smartest species on the planet and the best we can do is make a tv flat. Lets cure cancer or aids or create functioning limbs for aputies... How about robots to fight terroism and wars instead of retards strapped with a bomb.. Theres gotta be aliens from other planets just laughing at us. They probably don't want to come within contact with us cause we'd probably shoot them.. Not that i'm inviting little green men to come over and watch americas most funniest. Seriously, i hope by the time i'm 50 something cool happens cause life on earth in the past 100yrs has been a joke. Only thing cool about life is sex, and cool cars. lifting weights is cool too.

i like hearing you post man. life's strange and it's a journey that's for sure.

reality always conflicts with ideals.

reality is, leaded gas and high compression motors are wasteful from a MPG/emissions standpoint, but they are part of American freedom.

if a bunch of guys doing burnouts with modified motors is hurting the environment, then we're already screwed. and pricing in the oil business is as corrupt as it gets.

i think there are hard times ahead for the world in the near future on all levels, beyond anyone's imagination. i'd start saving and conserving on all levels and start getting more physically/mentally tough, nobody can ever have enough of that.

project cars are so cool, they make life worth living when there's a lot of crap in life to deal with.

daveshapellSVT
04-21-2008, 09:24 AM
i'm sure it could work. i've actually heard about ppl running there cars on real strong buse.. But it would turn out just like oil. The guy that actually takes the inisiative to produce and sell the stuff will eventually hike up the price. It's all price and demand. Oil or any alternative is needed by the entire planet for everyday purposes. oil and it's alternatives make the world go round and everyone needs it. So these big CEO/organazations know they can charge what ever they want for it and we have no choice but to pay the price. this is why oil should be regulated in some way with a price cap. I dunno if i would trust the government in doing this but hey as long as the price goes down i don't care. i just got gas this morning and for 87 octane it's $3.58 here. And judging that it's summer soon it will go up more. We will probably see $4 bucks a gallon this yr. Oil companies are just inching there way to see just how much we will pay. One day the world will take a stand and hopefully there won't be rioting and caios.. It just completely based on greed.
