05 Dodge Ram 1500 vibrates when accelerating

I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 crew cab with the 5.7L hemi. About 40k miles I started to get a vibrating feel when accelerating. When I left of the gas to slow down the truck hums. I have checked the tires and brakes and nothing looks out of the ordinary. Anyone else out there encounter this problem?

Thanks, Jim B.

Ditto to the u-joint. Put the truck on a flat “LEVEL” surface and put the transfer case in neutral and crawl underneath. Try rotating the drive shaft and see if it wiggles separate from the pinion on the axel and to yoke on the transfer case.

Thanks for the help. I bought a new u-joint at NAPA yesterday and will be installing it. It looks like the old one will have to be pressed out once I remove the clips. Is this correct?

Thanks, Jim B.

:grinyes: Yep you can do it with a big c-clamp or vice and a couple sockets. Just be careful installing the new one that all the needle bearings stay in place. They are all held in place with grease when the cap is off. You will have to take the cap off one end. Thread that through the driveshaft and tilt the bottom in, then place the cap on the outside of the drive shaft and press it in.

I will be finally replacing the u-jiont today. Thanks for the info on how to change them. Hopefully my c-clamp is big enough to press it out. I'll post my results once it's done for other AF members.

Thanks, Jim B.

Thanks for the help of replacing my u-joint. It fixed the problem of vibrating and humming. I used some socets and a vice to remove and install the u-joint. Amazing how much difference the u-joint can make in the ride of the truck.

Thanks, Jim B.
