Are there any special tools I need to change my intermediate steering shaft? I have heard of some sort of lock or key to hold the steering wheel straight but wasn't sure if I needed it. If there is another thread on this topic please point me in the right direction.

Thanks

You will want to restrain the steering wheel so it doesn't turn and ruin the SIR Clock Spring in the upper end of the column. There may be a tool to do that but I'll bet you are creative enough to figure that out.

I have done them without locking the steering wheel. You will have no problems. Just don't turn the steering wheel because it turns very freely without the column connected and although it might be fun to give it a good spin, like SLJ2137694 said, it will cause problems.

I worked for a chevy dealer for some time and have prolly replaced 50 intermediate steering shafts. I always just rigged some bungee cords up to keep the steering wheel From turning
