On the weekend I saw a new-style Avalanche... it had chrome 22"s with all the plastic panels painted gloss black to match the vehicle. In fact, you couldn't tell which panels were plastic & which were metal.

It looked so good that I was speechless - like an Escalade EXT for $20,000 less:eek:

You like the plastic? That is the one think everyone dislikes about it. Thanks for the picture bowtiebandit, i might think about getting one now. I wonder if these avalanches are any lighter???

i don't like the fact that they squared off the wheel wells at the top but lookin at that last pic they rounded them a little but other then that i would have to agree with except for when it is painted the same as the body (like on the escalade ext) i saw one like this the other day and it wasn't half bad lookin

The purpose of this SUT was to be an all-terrain, all utility vehicle. It wasn't really designed for some random guy to go blow 40 grand on a luxury SUV when he could go by some Ford Explorer. The plastic is GREAT while driving through tight trails lined with brush, or driving along cliff sides. My dad owns one and while you take a scratch or two to the plastic, the actually body remains undamaged. I don't really care if Chevy sells them without the plastic, but its really just for a sales reason, not functionality. If you are going for that, the plastic is great.

You have some good points there. I never thought of the plastic saving your paint from low lying brush.

I think that the truck looks better with the plastic. It just gives it that Avalanche look.

Heh, my personal opinion Avalanches are COOL as hell! But if you dont like the way the plastic looks try a fiberglass conversion.

The Avalanches have always been available without plastic. In fact it costs $600-800 more to have the plastic. A dealership in my area started ordering them without plastic in 2002 or 2003. But I think the Avalanches whith the painted plastic look the best.

Its has been a while since I replied to this thread but, my dad bought an Avalanche and thought the plastic made it ugly but now when I look at them without the plastic they look worse and I have grown to like the plastic. I also wouldn't mind strapping that engine in my Vandura either, he's got the 8.1L 496 V8, and wow that thing has some get up and freaking go. All he needs now is some 24's on that beast.
