Transmission problems?t/a 6.6 03-22-2008, 03:33 PM My dad has a 2000 ford taurus with the vulcan 3.0 liter v6. The car has 160,000 miles on it. One day the car went into gear moved a couple of feet, made a clunk sound and that was that. We towed it back to our house, and pulled it in the garage thinking the transmission was shot. I needed the garage for working on my truck, so i started the taurus up and put it into reverse, and the car went into gear. When I backed it out i found all of this clutch like matrial underneath it. Does anyone know what it could be? shorod 03-22-2008, 08:41 PM The clutches in the automatic transmission should be captive in the fluid. The only thing I can think of that would look like clutch friction material on that car would be brake friction material. -Rod t/a 6.6 03-23-2008, 06:11 PM The clutches in the automatic transmission should be captive in the fluid. They also work fine. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
