My temperature gauge was on Hot and the two fans were turning with no A/C running. The moment I stepped on accelerator the needle immediately came back down to normal and fans turned off.
I drove the car home with the gauge going up when I was stopped but back to normal upon acceleration. A block before my house the check engine light came on and the motor was running a little rough. I shut it off in the driveway, checked fluids which were fine and started it up again. The engine ran fine but the gauge continued climbing at idle and back to normal with acceleration. This morning I started it up and everything worked fine for about 20 minutes then it started doing it again with the gauge. The check engine light never came on again except for the one time.I changed the thermostat 35,000 miles ago with a new one from Honda. I am wondering if the temperature sensor by the top radiator hose is bad. I don't show any records of it being changed. Any thoughts?

possible bad temp sensor or maybe coolant blockage and worse case water pump flow is inefficient or head gasket there ca be alot of things wrong maybe you just need to add alot more water with the car running because you changed the thermo and maybe the water wasnt fully refilled ie when the thermo is cold no water runs past it but whem the thermo gets warm it opens allowing water through hence ou probably filled one side of the thermo and not the other so in order to see you have to run the car with the cap off and pour water as needed or until it takes no more but remember the car has to be warm first like idling and if that doesnt solve your prob then you probably have something going on a little deeper and pay attention and make sure the radiator does not have a hairline crack
