Having a problem with one blinker. Seems it will work ok for a short time, then starts blinking rapidly. I know it is the fron right bulb. When I check the bulb or tighten it in, it will again work briefly. Problem is, the bottom plastic part with the contacts keeps melting, I have tried different bulbs and always get the same thing, melting. Would it be a bad socket? Or should i check the voltage to the socket with my meters, anyone know what the prope voltage to the socket should be when blinking? Thanks.

I would do both. Put a new socket in as there may be a mild short in the one you have causing it to arc and melt. Also check the voltage to see what is going on when the lamp is lit and when it fluctuates. Proper voltage should be around 13.8V which is normal voltage.

UPDATED: Have since checked voltage to blinkers and parklight (Same bulb)
Voltage to both blinkers is between 2.5 to 8.8 volts

Voltage to the same bulb, blinkers off for running or park light, 14.4

Voltage at battery 14.4

When i first posted only one side was bad, now both sockets are somewhat melted and bulbs are very melted, will work if i wiggle them a bit, there not blowing, just coming lose when there hot and melting im assuming.

Called dealer after JY had nothing in my make. There asking 44 to 54 bux a socket (Which they think is the problem. I dont but after checking voltage , doesn't seem to off, maybe a touch high, I am going to check my haynes manual to see if that has any info on this.

Anyone has any input or ideas I would appreciate it much.

BTW- Rear brakes and blinkers work fine, and cornering lights also. Im stumped.

OK, checked my haynes and doesn't tell me anything in there about voltage or anything else for that matter aside from changing the darn bulbs.

I had the same problem on 98 regal.
There is a plug in the socket.
Ie: it unpluggs from the harness. It was about 50$ each.Take the part to the dealer and they will have them.
It is just the part that your light plugs into.

I read few things on here about this issue now and all are saying replace the socket and some D-Grease. Now I called about the sockets and for now are out of stock, so in the mean time I went to Crappy tire and bought some D-Grease and coted both bulb contacts and reinserted them into (melted sockets), tried the blinkers one working good other same, popped hood and took out and reinserted bad blinker bulb and turned it around also about 5 times, put er back in and they are now both working, for how long , who knows , but this is the first time they both worked together and also the longest without quitting so far. Hopefully they last till the sockets come in, and ima grease the sheet outta them new sockets and new bulbs also. Thanks for the replies.

the source of the problem is a bad ground, look at your wiring for the lights and you should see a ground wire connected to the chassis of the car just off to the side of your rad if your looking staight into the engine bay. Remove the ground clean the contact area and replace the ground , if your DSL sockets are cooked replace them and don't be shy with the dielectric greese
