Lancia Stratos Zerostratos75 03-15-2008, 09:04 PM Hi, friends! I'm Mikhail. It's my first post and I want it would be interesting to look my Thread. So, I decided to build a scale model of Lancia Stratos Zero in my lovely scale - 1/24. The Bertone Stratos was designed by Marcello Gandini, who also penned the Lamborghini Miura and Lamborghini Countach. The Stratos concept was a development of the Bertone designed Alfa Romeo Carabo Concept from 1968, also a Gandini creation. Access to the interior of the Stratos Zero was done through the hinged windscreen. The Bertone designed Lancia Stratos Zero prototype used the same engine as the Lancia 1600 HF Fulvia. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/Stratos%20Zero/img084res.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/Stratos%20Zero/img083res.jpg My project was begun when my brother created a 3D model of body, engine hood and interior by using the PhotoModeler and CATIA programs. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/catprtscr06res.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/catprtscr10res.jpg Then he had making a milling work on his home milling machine with computer numerical control. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/Stratos%20Zero/frezer.jpg And I received some moulds and one complete detail (hood). http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/Stratos%20Zero/frezer3.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/Stratos%20Zero/IMG_0013res.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/Stratos%20Zero/IMG_0063res.jpg Then I made a body and mountings from epoxy resin and a carbon. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/Stratos%20Zero/IMG_0077res.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/Stratos%20Zero/IMG_0064res.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/Stratos%20Zero/IMG_0072res.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/Stratos%20Zero/IMG_0056res.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/Stratos%20Zero/IMG_0065res.jpg That's for today. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/Stratos%20Zero/IMG_0595.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/Stratos%20Zero/IMG_0592.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/Stratos%20Zero/IMG_0593.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/Stratos%20Zero/IMG_0596.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/Stratos%20Zero/IMG_0594.jpg MPWR 03-15-2008, 09:40 PM Welcome to AF! Looks like a very interesting project. Would you mind posting your text in the normal (size 2) font? Some of us would rather not have to squint our eyes to read your descriptions. :grinyes: NissanSkylineGTR98 03-15-2008, 10:47 PM Very interesting project, I never even knew this car existed. Looks great so far, can't wait to see more and welcome to AF! bigfrit 03-15-2008, 11:19 PM Whaat? This is brilliant! Absolutely gorgeous, is the model itself in carbon fibre? That sounds a bit strange, are you planning to make some limited copies of it, I know some might want to buy some! MidMazar 03-15-2008, 11:31 PM I wonder how hard that program is to use. Please post more!!! mrawl 03-16-2008, 03:54 AM Wow, this is super-interesting. Thanks for posting. stratos75 03-16-2008, 07:28 AM ...is the model itself in carbon fibre?... No, there's no carbon that years. ...are you planning to make some limited copies of it... I think about it, but I have not solved while. denman2 03-16-2008, 10:34 AM Excelent build. Is there gonna be an engine inside or will it be curbside. I will follow this build. denman stratos75 03-16-2008, 01:37 PM ...Is there gonna be an engine inside or will it be curbside... Yes, I want to make it fully open. Tripmaster 03-16-2008, 02:56 PM look like a pretty expensive and interesting project. however, i'm not sure if this is still car modeling. i'd say it's more machinig than modeling thadude 03-16-2008, 05:37 PM Looks a realy intrestion project. You're planning on doing resins of this model to sell ? DarrenGR 03-17-2008, 05:04 AM Wow! Must be great to have that kind of access to technology and certainly can't fault your subject choice - I love that car! Can't wait for the updates to come and details of an available release?? More info now please!!!!! Darren (LanciaNut!) gionc 03-17-2008, 11:40 AM As I said in advance: just superb! Bravo! ciao sjelic 03-18-2008, 03:21 AM My my, real jaw dropper. I wait for more...soon I hope. stratos75 03-28-2008, 09:37 PM Thank you friends! I shall not be able to produce kits, because it's very hard process for alone. I have no much free time, so I work slowly. Now, little update. drawn the line of the cut http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/IMG_0612res.jpg cut out the door http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/IMG_0615res.jpg filling http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/IMG_0617res.jpg ready http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/IMG_0634res.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/IMG_0635res.jpg it must be very realistic http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/11.jpg stratos75 05-18-2008, 06:51 PM Hi friends! This is a car that I have seen, actually. I was living in Pennsylvania, and my cousin was a Lamborghini buff. He actually has a model of this car. It is quite crude, and lacking in detail, but none the less recognizable. It was said that this appears to be more of a machining than modeling build. I have to disagree. I don't care what medium you use, what method, or technique, you are building a model, therefore it is modeling. I know if I had the income to support a 5 axis milling machine, rapid prototyping system, and the knowledge to use them, I'd be modeling cars with those methods all the time. forget about buying kits any more! lol as for the question about the car being carbon, I believe it was asked in reference to the model you are building. 924_CarreraGTS 05-18-2008, 09:31 PM :eek2:  Awesome work! Welcome to AF! Alex DVST8R 05-18-2008, 11:08 PM Wow this is nuts! Fkouch 05-19-2008, 05:16 PM Awesome! That's the car that Michael Jackson turns into in Moonwalker. :) DerXL 05-20-2008, 12:12 PM Unbelievable stuff !!! I'm (almost) speechless... Great work !!! voyageur 05-20-2008, 03:13 PM This is absolutely amazing and must be called art rather than just modeling :) I wish I had the opportunity to access such nice tools! Keep it up! daniel_k 05-20-2008, 06:39 PM man those machines are amazing...but it's very expensive, so I can only dream of one :-( daniel -germany- stratos75 08-31-2008, 04:04 PM Thanks to all for kind words! I began to make an interior http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/Stratos%20Zero/interior_2res1.jpg The steering wheel. I had drew the Lancia's emblem very long :silly:. I hope soon you will see it. The one steering wheel I spoiled:banghead: , and now do the new one. Mish, eshe raz, super. Enzoenvy1 09-02-2008, 02:34 PM Now that is model building at its finest - from scratch. Well, from scratch with the help of a CNC machine, lol. Great build and process. klutz_100 09-02-2008, 03:32 PM Holy schmoley!! :eek2: (that's Polish for something about a mać and a job ;) ) When I miss a thread I certainly miss the good ones!! I don't like the car, but you're doing an awesome work!! Amazing mate!:eek: Keep the good work! nugundam93 09-06-2008, 05:44 PM amazing work! and i'm too green with envy with your access to the prototyping tools. :) stratos75 09-11-2008, 07:11 PM Thanks! At last I have made an ill-fated steering wheel! It has appeared much more difficult than I thought. The spokes are very thin and often broke. May be I shall made them from wire. So, it is my fifth attempt. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/Stratos%20Zero/rul_11res.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/Stratos%20Zero/DSC016931res.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/Stratos%20Zero/IMG_0501res.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/Stratos%20Zero/IMG_0503res.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/Stratos%20Zero/IMG_0508res.jpg The valve cover of the engine will be my next work. There is another one detail . It is the valve cover of the engine . It's not quite ideally, but I am satisfied. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/Stratos%20Zero/cover_01.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/Stratos%20Zero/IMG_0512res.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/Stratos%20Zero/IMG_0511res.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f204/stratos75/Stratos%20Zero/IMG_0504res.jpg The next step will be the gearbox jano11 09-17-2008, 05:00 PM Nice job on the valve cover! Looking forward to the gearbox! Where do you get the blue prints for all the parts you design and machine? stratos75 09-17-2008, 05:39 PM I have not any blue prints on this car. I do all by photos. jano11 09-18-2008, 05:28 AM You do a very good job considering the lack of blue prints! Keep it up! :) rockinanko 09-20-2008, 03:01 AM This is definitely my first time witnessing a model build in such a high-tech fashion, never imagine this was possible, especially in a hobby arena...it is now. so this is how makers like tamiya & revell churn out before every new kit was produced, that's the '+ mold'. then they fabricate the '- mold' from this & start the plastic injection process... i applaud the use of such technology to make new, never seen before models, for the accuracy & precision it provides is 99.99% spot on. but i wonder if this is gonna kill off the fun from this old hobby, where the dissatisfied / advanced modelor will ever takes the next plunge in trying to build models the unconventional way. no, i'm not trying to discriminate anything. modeling has sharpened & increased my brainstorming abilities in many ways since i broke away from building solely out-of-the-box to my current stage. i could create parts not easily available / existed by using only styrene & anything i could lay my hands on, abeit in acceptable accuracies / deficiencies, with some thinking. but if i were to sit back, hope & pray all my modeling needs will be provided somehow or rather, sooner or later...as long as i have enough $$$ to buy them when they're available, will i be the same person as i am now!? is this the way all modelors will go some day? just for thoughts...cheers! jano11 09-20-2008, 05:56 AM so this is how makers like tamiya & revell churn out before every new kit was produced, that's the '+ mold'. then they fabricate the '- mold' from this & start the plastic injection process... Not really, the manufacturers that produce plastic injection kits use metallic molds. They do directly design and produce their molds. The "garage" kit manufacturers (resin kit manufacturers) however use the method that you described (make a prototype and than make the molds using that). stratos75 09-21-2008, 05:13 PM You may to think anything you want, but it's my own way, and I like it. I wouldn't wanna be in their place but i'm itching to try this myself...gotta learn that damn 3D-software..... I'll definitely follow this from now on:-) stratos75 11-30-2008, 08:17 PM Thanks to all! This weekend I did anew the front part of the seats, because with getting of new fotos I saw that the previous was not correct. So at now I'm satisfied. The new part till not cutting (in the centre). http://img-fotki.yandex.ru/get/3106/mikhailpetrenko.3/0_20073_f305287a_XL.jpg (http://fotki.yandex.ru/users/mikhailpetrenko/view/131187/) The previous version of the seats. http://img-fotki.yandex.ru/get/3301/mikhailpetrenko.3/0_20074_f2af8d82_XL.jpg (http://fotki.yandex.ru/users/mikhailpetrenko/view/131188/) And now. http://img-fotki.yandex.ru/get/2709/mikhailpetrenko.3/0_20075_4434800e_XL.jpg (http://fotki.yandex.ru/users/mikhailpetrenko/view/131189/) Reference. http://img-fotki.yandex.ru/get/3300/mikhailpetrenko.3/0_20076_56298c0f_XL.jpg (http://fotki.yandex.ru/users/mikhailpetrenko/view/131190/) mrawl 12-01-2008, 05:16 AM This continues to be one of the most interesting things I've ever seen! I'm curious though, the real seat appears to have 9 panels top to bottom, yours has 7. Clearly you could have modeled this perfectly, any reason for the difference? jano11 12-01-2008, 07:32 AM I'm curious though, the real seat appears to have 9 panels top to bottom, yours has 7. Clearly you could have modeled this perfectly, any reason for the difference? I think it has 10 with the one at top that is in the darker upper part. stratos75 12-01-2008, 06:25 PM I think it has 10 with the one at top that is in the darker upper part. Yes! You can to count, but you aren't attentive. Look at my previous fotos and you will see all parts of the seats. In the latter case I've shown the rebuilt part only. I remind you as it looks now (without the left panel to better view): http://img-fotki.yandex.ru/get/3107/mikhailpetrenko.3/0_20119_723e8b5_XL.jpg (http://fotki.yandex.ru/users/mikhailpetrenko/view/131353/) jano11 12-02-2008, 02:33 AM Yes! You can to count... Thanks for the compliment! gionc 12-02-2008, 06:24 AM Fantastic so far! Looks like this project fix at all my problem to do one for myself and to sell, I'll buy a couple for me (one orange and one silver ;) ) and leave you to sell all you want ;), too busy with other project lately, but more than happy to see so great updates. BRAVO! 360spider 12-02-2008, 09:15 AM Superb craftsmanship! mrawl 12-02-2008, 09:54 PM Lol, I knew you'd have a perfect answer on the seat thing. Do you break parts up in order to make tooling easier? But then something like the steering wheel - that has to be remounted and tooled from both sides? stratos75 12-03-2008, 01:34 AM ...Do you break parts up in order to make tooling easier? But then something like the steering wheel - that has to be remounted and tooled from both sides? Yes, I do. You are right, if some parts needs to mill both sides I remount they and tool each side. But some parts I force to break and rotate to 3D milling. rollin80s 12-03-2008, 02:58 PM wow, this is amazing:eek2:keep up the great work.:evillol: b00mslang 12-13-2008, 07:26 PM Are you planning to offer the 3d modeling files for sale? stratos75 12-14-2008, 09:09 AM Are you planning to offer the 3d modeling files for sale? I don't want to sell it at a low price yet. b00mslang 12-14-2008, 04:23 PM I was thinking of the current prices listed at TurboSquid, etc. $150 plus? I am not interested in competing on the model level. I would be using the files to setup bulkheads and wireform buck for a full-size aluminum copy. (for myself and not for resale) This would just save me the work of modeling it. TIA Hiroboy 12-21-2008, 05:46 PM Awesome work Philmodelcar 04-15-2009, 04:36 PM why selling the data, why don't you cast and sell complete kits ? I'll be a good customer :) gionc 04-16-2009, 03:39 AM Man, we got to discuss that in past. This is a subject I want to do, I started to design the body shell but I'm quite back compared your actual stage. More, looks me stupid create competition (also if competition help quality..) between us: this wouldn't be a Scuderia's project: all I'll offer is a full partnership, where we share profits. On the other side I'm not interested to buy 3D data, I have partially and not problem to finish: it would be just a cool adventure together. If the idea looks you cool, contact me, you shoud have mail somewhere, now, after some Scuderia's and freelance experiences I'm more ready to do something like it. Not to mention... 1/12 and 1/43 scales... ;) I wait for you :D stratos75 04-16-2009, 03:23 PM I took a small time-out because of a new job, and now haven't enough free time for my hobby :( Gio, I received some new interesting photos of engine bay and underbody from Bertone. I may to send they to you if you want. gionc 04-17-2009, 05:50 AM I took a small time-out because of a new job, and now haven't enough free time for my hobby :( Gio, I received some new interesting photos of engine bay and underbody from Bertone. You did such a great job producing this body shell, it's really impressive. RetroFuturist 07-14-2009, 03:11 PM I saw this car (the Zero) on eBay for sale. It is not as good quality (no interior or anything) as yours Stratos75:), but it still looks pretty cool. I started one for myself from scratch, but it is taking forever:banghead:. Check it out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140332502794 snk33y 07-15-2009, 02:30 AM Wow!
