Z34 Can't find one transmission to engine boltrebi50 03-14-2008, 02:40 PM I'm in the process of removing a 4t60E transmission from a 1996 Monte Carlo with a 3.4 engine. It's turning out to be the most diffucult teardown of my life. I thought I completed the hard part when I had to access the flange bolts to remove the cross over pipe to access the top bell housing bolts. That being done I have found one harder and hope someone can help. I am at the very last step before lowering the trans to the ground. The engine and trans are supported by a fixture and everything below is gone. There is one 18mm bell housing bolt that is closest to the firewall that I can not even see let alone remove. Can anyone give me a clue how to access this bolt. rebi50 03-17-2008, 04:04 PM It looks like I was able to resolve my own question. I order to access the reverse facing bolt closest to the firewall, one must remove the alternator. With it removed, the bolt was easily visible and accessable. The transmission lowered down nicely after that. Now I can begin to tear it down, and try to determine why I have no line pressure. I hope I didn't miss something easy during my diagnosis, like a modulator. I don't think it could effect pressure down to zero, however. A word to the wise. No one should ever attempt this teardown on a Z34 Monte Carlo without a hoist. Thanks to everyone that read my post. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
