2001 Monte SS V8?amichals 03-12-2008, 02:42 PM I own a 01 SS Monte. It has the 3800 motor in it and yes that engine isnt really slow and is reliable but I have always been excited about the idea of hearing the sound of a V8 come from that car since none of them were made with one. My question is, how hard would it be to swap a V8 in those version montes. And what V8's would be a good choice. I thought of the Northstar V8 thats in the cadillacs or maybe something older like a 350 but just not sure. Any suggestions? dwalmop 03-13-2008, 01:34 PM Hmmm, I would think the EASIEST v8 conversion would be the 5.3L from a late model SS (Either a Monte SS or Grand Prix GTP). These are already set-up for a W-body, and the chassis from a new one to yours is, for all practical purposes, essentially identical. I've heard of people doing Northstar conversions, but I understand it's a lot of work. amichals 03-13-2008, 03:20 PM ok well with that said my next question would be, where, and how much? Where would I find a used 5.3L and how much would it cost or a round about estimate. Do they sell those engines anywhere? thanks for any help dwalmop 03-17-2008, 01:25 PM salvage yard. smokeyandthebandit 03-23-2008, 02:24 PM I've been thinking about swapping a 5.3L in mine. Anyone know what the reliability of the 5.3 is like? The 3.8 is amazing. I currently have 182,000 miles with no oil leaks or any other problems at all. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
