I have a 2000 Xterra XE 4x4 V6 with an automatic transmission. I am experiencing a couple of interesting quirks and I was wondering if these are normal or signs of a potential issue. First, when I am driving at speeds of 40-50 mph and I let off the gas to coast, when I get back on the gas there is an ever-so-slight clunk, and sometimes a very subtle vibration. These are both very subtle and only happen occasionally. I have been told that it is somewhat common and is likely due to slack in the transfer case, which seems reasonable but I am not sure. Second, when I stop the vehicle occasionally there is a clunk heard beneath me. This too is very subtle, but agian I am not sure. The vehicle has 115k miles on it, so I am wondering if this is just normal for the age. The transmission shifts through all the gears well with no slipping or shuddering. Thanks for any insight. Doubt it's the transmission, probably some driveshaft slop.
