Brake Bulb indicator light still on after replacingHpyGlmore2 03-07-2008, 12:22 AM Hi, On my 1995 camry, my brake light indicator recently came on when I hit the brakes. I checked and sure enough my left brake light lub was dark black and looked like it had blown. I replaced the bulb with the right kind from Autozone according to the manual, but the indicator always comes on when I start the car and press down the brake pedal. When I replaced the left bulb, I also replaced the right. I have tried all combinations of the 2 news bulbs from the package and the old one that was still good, but the light always comes on. All my lights are working...I've checked the brakes, reverse, turn signals, rear mounted brake light (in the car), and the license plate bulb. I've checked with and without the headlights on, and with the headlights on, when I brake, both lights get brighter, but the indicator still comes on. The indicator does not come on when I turn the headlights on first w/o braking. Quite puzzling...I think so? Any ideas guys? Thanks RIP 03-07-2008, 01:14 AM I would suspect the light failure module mounted fwd on the right side of the trunk. Open it up and see if you see evidense of burning. If I remember correctly they cost around $200 new. Ebay or a junkyard may be easier on your wallet. Some even replace the components in the module. You could try cleaning the bulb sockets with contact cleaner. Any corrosion can cause problems. ProMan 03-07-2008, 09:03 AM Do you have a 3rd or high-mount brake light? HpyGlmore2 03-07-2008, 10:08 AM Give you provide a bit more detail where this light failure module is located in the truck? Size.shape.location? I've never heard of one before. Also, I do have a 3rd brake light that is at the bottom of the back windshield but that is ok. HpyGlmore2 03-07-2008, 12:27 PM OK.. update. I just followed the wiring to a white lamp failure box. I opened it up and the PCB and componenets all look fine, no brown signs of burnouts. I also cleaned out the light sockets to get rid of any corrosion. I have noticed that if I lightly step on the brake, and I see the in-car mounted 3rd brake light turn on (i removed the cover), the bulb out light does not turn on. I can step a bit harder also w/o it turning on. However, if I put normal braking pressure on the pedal, the bulb failure light turns on. I know I need new rear brake and rotors... and also the pedal is "soft" when I brake. I figure this is because the brakes are well worn down ~10% left. Could this be part of the problem why the bulb is going "out?" vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
