I can't seem to get the 4wd light in the dash of my 2003 Tacoma to turn off when I put the truck back in 2h Never had this problem in 5 years of 4wd operation, any ideas? I've tried going from 4L back to 2H car on car off, park, neutral and so on. I know that the 4wd is disengaging but the light remains on!? I was wondering if it meant that there is low fluid perhaps in the 4wd unit, similar to when the parking brake light remains on when your brake fluid is low. Thanks in advance for any advice.

At the headind of this forum is a listing of shop manuals. Look in the 2003 wiring manual for the circuit and how to troubleshoot the light. I doubt the light would indicate low fluid, it's probably only a 4 wheel drive indicator. You will need a volt meter or a test light to troubleshoot the circuit.
