2008 Avalon leaks water when it rains

Every time it rains, my new Avalon leaks water into the back seat. We had this problem on the first avalon we got and we complained. The dealer maintained that they had never encountered the problem before and they offered to swap our car for a new one. We got the new one and encountered the same problem. Has anybody else ever encountered this problem?

No experience with it but, there could be a history to it. On 6/1/07 Toyota issued a TSB #BO 005-07 for moon roof drains leaking into the passenger compartment. This applied to 2005-2007 model year Avalons and Camrys. The fix was to install clamps at the drain point nipples.

A TSB is a technical service bulletin. This is an advisory for Toyota technicians to change a procedure or fix a particular problem in a particular way if encountered.

This leak involves the rear doors(on 4 doors) only. When the car is left out in the rain,a lot of water is found on the bottom inside trim when the rear doors are opened. This causes no serious problem except in cold weather when the doors freeze shut. Is there supposed to be some way for water to drain from the top of the vehicle thru the rear doors and out the bottom of the doors somehow?

Plus, the new Avalons have almost no back up lights. Is there an after market fix for this?

I would imagine the sunroof drains are routed through the center or forward pillars or both. Do you see waterstains or any evidense of the sunroof leaking? If not, Disregard that possibility. Can you duplicate it with a hose? Take it to your dealership, ask for a hose and show them. Can't help on the reverse lights.
